Weekly Wrap-Up: In Which We Try to be Good Sports

In our homeschool this week... we finally finished up some of our art projects, and got a couple of science lessons out of the way. Spencer finished another book on his World Lit reading list. And Friday was Field Day - one of the events my kids really look forward to!

In other news... We were busy at ball games this week, but have finally made up the games that were rained out during the first week of the schedule. On Wednesday evening we all enjoyed the annual Clubhouse picnic with our church family, despite the weather being very chilly. We watched hockey as well, but that has been far less than satisfying, since the teams we cheer for are
not doing wellgetting knocked out of the playoffs!! *sigh*

My favorite thing this week was... watching Kennady play softball. Or maybe it was the Field Day.  It might even have been the book(s) I read - the Liz Curtis Higgs ones are top-notch!

What's working/not working for us... having lots of great homeschooling friends is working particularly well for us this week.  We wouldn't be able to enjoy fun activities like the Field Day without our wonderful homeschool group, and I was very pleased to be able to make arrangements to ride with three other ladies to the curriculum fair and convention next week.  Convenient because it means I can leave the vehicles here for the rest of the family, saves money because I will be pitching in for gas and parking rather than taking my own gas-guzzler, and I certainly anticipate enjoying the travel time having friends to visit with!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... thinking of ways to keep us all motivated to get through the final weeks of the school year...

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...
"Any child who can spend an hour or two a day, or more if he wants, with adults that he likes, who are interested in the world and like to talk about it, will on most days learn far more from their talk than he would learn in a week of school." ~ John Holt

On the Bookshelf...

  • Miniatures and Morals: The Christian Novels of Jane Austen by Peter Leithart

  • Deep Church by Jim Belcher

  • Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

  • Fair is the Rose by Liz Curtis Higgs

Do no like to mow. One of the dreaded things of this time of year:( Too bad we can't have cows fenced in our yard to take care of the grass....but then it would smell icky.

Don't show Kevin that riding lawnmower. He's been wanting one for our yard. 4 passes and he'd be done.

Field day looks like fun as long as I'm not the one participating. LOL I hated it in school. But boy is Kennady cute!

LOL at only needing four passes to finish mowing the yard. We wish! I don't like mowing either, but I think I'll try it with this one - because it has a cupholder! hahaha

I meant to post that comment here, not on FB! How did you do that?

Kym, thank you for sharing that quote! And if you figure out a way to stay motivated, please share. I'm struggling here...

At some point I figured out how to link this to FB, but I don't remember how! Thanks for visiting - if I come up with any tips for staying motivated, I'll share them, if all my fellow homeschoolers will do the same. ;-)
