Weekly Wrap-Up: In Which Summer Begins

I didn't post a wrap-up at all last weekend, so I'm covering two weeks this time...

In our homeschool last week... Spencer finished History/Bible/Lit!! And he's inching ever closer to the end of his other subjects as well. Landon finished Bible!

Landon and Kennady began looking at the Middle East in our final section of Social Studies. We talked about the Sumerians and their invention of cuneiform writing, and the Babylonian and Persian empires.

In our homeschool this week... We are 'officially' finished school, but of course there are still things that actually need to be finished. ;-) For Landon and Kennady, we need to finish off the Social Studies section on the Middle East; for Spencer, let's just say he has quite a bit left to do. Sadly, at least two of his subjects I awarded a grade for work completed thus far and the credit based on the assumption that he WILL finish the rest of the book this summer.

In other news... we enjoyed a brief vacation on the long weekend, traveling to the Delmarva peninsula. I was worried that my back would hurt much more with the driving and then sleeping on a hotel bed, but I did fine. I guess it's healing up. The hot tub at the hotel certainly helped, in my opinion!

Harrison's job at the greenhouse ended, so he is looking for work again. He still has the radio job, but that's not really bringing him any profit at this point.

Kennady's softball team was in playoffs the past couple weeks. They are guaranteed the first four games, then move on to the next round depending on their record. They won their first three games (which were for seeding), so they were feeling pretty good about their prospects - but winning those games also seeded them against some better teams. Last night their pitching wasn't good enough and the lost the game, ending the season. It was lots of fun for Kennady and for us, and we look forward to next year! By the way, this was the 13th straight springtime we spent watching at least one of our kids play youth baseball/softball. We realized that one evening and thought it seemed like a long time!

My favorite thing(s) this week was/were... vacation time, warm weather, softball games, and fireflies.

What's working/not working for us... well, since Harrison is not working any more, we will have to put him to work around the house to earn his keep!

I know how you feel about having those things to finish up over the summer. We are going to use the summer to continue our history and science:)
