Homeschool Mother's Journal: In Which Things Go Rather Well

In our homeschool...  I think we did a little better this week than last.  We finished reading Mark Twain's Humorous Stories and Sketches - and if no one else found them humorous, at least I did.  Kennady and Landon learned about the Vikings, and in music we learned about Antonin Dvorak.  We didn't do much with Science this week.  Landon started working on a literature/history study of a book called The Cay.  Co-op class was spent building model trebuchets.

In other news... Landon did go back to Civil Air Patrol this week.  We haven't managed to get much out of him as far as what they did, which is frustrating, but totally within character!  His friend went too, and I think Landon is being a bad influence, because the other boy has said next to nothing to his parents about what they did.  LOL

Last night DH and I went out with friends for an amazing dinner at the Historic Fairfield Inn.  It was so good, and I wondered how I would ever be able to eat again, yet this evening we went to friends' and ate another wonderful meal.

My favorite thing this week... being seated at the Fairfield and being told that the special was steak - a 14oz steak with all the extras!  Good deal!

Questions/thoughts I have... why are some books so much quicker to read than others?  Same approximate length, both books that I really enjoy, but one I can read in a couple of sittings, and another will take days or weeks for me to get through.

Celestial Almanack - March 2012  - seriously, check it out.  Just $3 for the issue, which is great for homeschooling or just for folks interested in learning about the stars.  I wrote about our experience with it here.

On the bookshelf...

  • The Betrayed by Lisa T. Bergren
  • A House for My Name by Peter J. Leithart
  • The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens by Debra Bell
  • The Bone House by Stephen R. Lawhead
Finished A Fatal Waltz by Tasha Alexander.  I'm behind on blogging about books again, partly because the site was down for part of the week, and partly because, well... I'm just behind!

A parting shot...

This post is linked to The Homeschool Chick - see how well thigns are going for other homeschoolers this week!

Are daffodils popping up in your area already? We haven't seen them emerge yet. The Cay, that is on my sons reading list for later this year
