Homeschool Mother's Journal: Good News/Bad News Edition

In our homeschool... We did our best to get lots done in school this week, and succeeded in completing another unit in History, some astronomy, and all three kids worked on math and language arts assignments. Since we're nearing the end of the school year, I spent some time going over what Spencer has left to complete before graduation. The good news is that in most subjects, we are in very good shape. The bad news not-so-good news is that there are a couple of subject areas where we will need to buckle down and put in some extra time in order to finish by the 'deadline'.

We talked about the Space Race, among other things, in History class this week.
In other news... Kennady's team played their first softball game of the season on Monday night. It was rather disappointing to have several days of such warm weather, and then the game night was so chilly! She played again on Wednesday, but I didn't get to go to that game.

Tuesday brought good news - Harrison received word that he got the job he'd interviewed for at a radio station! He went to get paperwork looked after on Wednesday.

Thursday brought some bad news - our oldest son found that our van had been broken into while he was at work and his wallet was stolen. Thankfully, the police caught somebody very shortly afterwards, and all indications are that it was hoodlums looking for easy cash. Still, we have the headache of replacing the ID and that sort of thing.

Oh, and last weekend... the bad news is that my parents and aunts headed back home (that's not really bad news, per se, but we miss them of course), and the traffic in Washington was horrific. The good news is that my hubby drove so I didn't have to!

What's working/not working for us... For the most part, we have had a really good school week, with everyone working hard and with decent attitudes.

Thoughts/questions I have... Is it naptime yet? I get sleepier during allergy season!

One of my favorite things this week... all the trees so heavy with blossoms. Last Saturday was the Cherry Blossom parade in DC (so the bad news was that the traffic was AWFUL), and this is the prime time of year for so many kinds of trees in bloom. My favorites are probably the redbuds and laurels with their bold colors.

Finished Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, but haven't blogged about it yet. It's not like I haven't read it or blogged about it before!

A parting shot... this picture cracks me up. We took it on Saturday when we were in the van ready to drive my parents to the train station. The kids came out to say good-bye and they were all in their "pajamas" and I got this candid shot. It's like they are practicing a pose for the photo that will appear on their new alternative rock album or something. LOL

Graduation?!

Oh, that rots about the van getting broken into. It's more than just the money or the inconvenience, it's the feeling of being "attacked" even if it wasn't directly.

Beautiful blooms!
