Weekly Photo Challenge - The Book Collection

My name is Kym and I am a bookaholic. I'm also a librocubularist (click the word to see what that is. If you're a librocubularist as well, tell me), which is a related condition. I really have no desire to find a cure for either of these conditions because I thoroughly enjoy both of them, but I am probably in need of an intervention when it comes to my bookshelves. It's easy to say I don't have enough bookshelves (what homeschooler does?!) but it's much more accurate to say that I have trouble allowing books to leave my house or that I have trouble keeping our collection adequately organized. This week's photo challenge from The Canadian Homeschooler is "The Book Collection" and we are invited to show the book collections that homeschoolers tend to be known for. So last night and this morning I quickly snapped some pictures of a portion of our collection. This represents only what is on the main floor of the house. There are also books upstairs in the kids' rooms and in the hallway shelves, books downstairs and lots of books in storage. Oh dear.

Exhibit A - in one corner of the living room

Exhibit B - another corner of the living room. Stacked under an end table, if I must be honest.

Exhibit C - cookbooks. I use only a small percentage of these, but they are books. Also, there are at least two here that are the students' cooking around the world type cookbooks, so they are schoolbooks. So yes, I am keeping them.

Exhibit D - desk in my room. Stuffed. Full. Don't judge.

Exhibit E - top of my computer desk. These are texts and record-keeping, so directly related to homeschooling. Just realized this photo is exactly the right shape for a Facebook cover image. LOL Bonus: This actually looks neat and tidy.

Exhibit F - my 'personal' bookshelf and bedside table. Also overstuffed.

Goodness, this is becoming embarrassing. I don't often post pictures of my bedroom, y'know.

Lest anyone think that the only book hoarder in our family is me, I offer Exhibit DH - a glimpse of the bookshelf on the hubster's side of the bed, which is the same size as mine, but also contains sports collector memorabilia. And a healthy collection of books.

Exhibit X - my crate of schoolbooks we are currently using. Each kid has a similar crate of schoolbooks in their room.

Exhibit Y - my crate of "we might use these this year" schoolbooks...

Do you need a book storage intervention, or have you got a great system for keeping your collection under control? Leave a comment and let me know! You can see other weekly photos shared at The Canadian Homeschooler Weekly Photo Challenge - The Book Collection and share your own pictures.

Kym, I used to be a librocu. (I can't scroll and type at the same time.) My husband still is. I can't anymore because I fall asleep too soon and the poor book falls to the floor. I do read at night before bed, every night. But not in bed. :D

Why yes, I am a librocubularist. Very much so as a kid, but still do on occasion. I included cookbooks too, but that's actually my husband's collection! He's the cook and the cookbook collector (hoarder?) in our family.

I hear ya. I have books EVERYWHERE. And I think I *am* the only book hoarder, but I'm trying to get the kids into it lol. Thanks for joining in! (And I am not a very good librocubularist ... I fall asleep! :D )
