Homeschool Weekly - Travel Edition

It's almost unfair to even call this week's summary a "homeschool" weekly, as we were all on break from schoolwork. Our travels even threw off my posting schedule so much that I wasn't able to get something new up on the Virtual Fridge this week! Normally I would plan ahead for a week like the one just past, but this one snuck up on me a bit.

In our homeschool... that's right - it's time for a break. We took the full week off, except that Kennady did have her music lesson on Monday. This coming week will certainly not be a "regular" week as far as schoolwork goes, but Kennady and I will turn our attention back to the Bible study from Prasso Ministries and to Unlock Math, both for upcoming reviews. With re-enactments going on in nearby Gettysburg this week, we will be thinking about the Civil War as well as our nation's independence, so I'm sure we'll be listening to With Lee in Virginia together this week.

As for me, now that I am home again, I will be continuing to learn my way around the Homeschool Planet online planner from Homeschool Buyers Co-op, for a review later this summer.

In other news... my "other news" updates start with last Friday evening, when the hubster and I finally bought a new vehicle! It was past time to replace our van, and we had been thinking about it for a long time, so it was mostly a matter of going to the dealership and making a final decision on which model and color we wanted.

On Saturday, the hubster and I spent the day in New York. We rode the bus with a whole group of other children's chorus family members and spent the better part of the day looking around Manhattan.

We went to the top of the Rockefeller building, then walked around Central Park before heading to the concert at Carnegie Hall in the evening. Kennady was in NYC with her choir for several days, and you can see more about her experience on Middle School Monday - NYC Field Trip Photojournal.

We welcomed Kennady back home on Sunday, Father's Day. Monday was a day to run errands, do laundry, and prepare for our next round of travel. Spencer, Landon, and Kennady all went to CreationFest with the youth group from Wednesday until today; while the hubster and I left on Tuesday to spend a few days with his parents in Ontario. His mom had her last radiation treatment on Thursday, and is doing very well. We are hopeful that the doctors will find that her cancer has responded well and that she is on the mend.

Things that made me smile... Not only did I get to attend a concert at Carnegie Hall, but my daughter was in the National Children's Festival Chorus on the program!

My dear mother-in-law ringing the bell to celebrate her final treatment for cancer.

34 Weeks of Clean...
I've been participating in a weekly challenge and link-up at Family, Faith, and Fridays and our assignment was the yard. We made sure it got mowed last week (and it's time to mow again!) but since we weren't home, that's really all we did.

For Week 26, the assignment is the storage room/attic. Well, we don't have an attic, but we do have some storage areas, so I guess I will have to make an honest effort this week! For the details of the assignment, go to Family, Faith, and Fridays. Join in if you haven't already, and check back next week for our progress!

I recommend... visiting the participating bloggers in the Homeschooling High School Blog Hop. This past week we all shared about planning for high school.

On the bookshelf...

The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer
Your Sacred Yes: Trading Life-Draining Obligation for Freedom, Passion, and Joy by Susie Larson
Now and Forever (Wild at Heart) by Mary Conneally
In Good Company by Jen Turano

I finished Hearts Made Whole (Beacons of Hope) by Jody Hedlund and reviewed it on my book blog. I just finished Suddenly Mrs. Darcy by Jenetta James and will review it soon. Watch for that and other book-related posts on my book blog, Just A Second.

A parting shot...  We found ourselves in a dilemma while traveling to Canada this week. There was only one lane open, but the truck ahead of us sported a sign saying "Do Not Follow". LOL
