In our homeschool... We were on break this week - after all, there was plenty of celebrating going on! Kennady and I did a little bit with a Bible study from Prasso Ministries and with Unlock Math, both for upcoming reviews. It was perfect timing to have a listen to a G.A. Henty Civil War tale, With Lee in Virginia - that's for an upcoming review too. Landon was barely home this week, so he got to take the entire week off from school!

I am still exploring the Homeschool Planet online planner from Homeschool Buyers Co-op, for a review later this summer.

In other news... well, I mentioned that there was lots to celebrate! We did celebrate the good news from last week that my mother-in-law has finished her cancer treatments, and we are hoping that the follow-up tests bring more good news too.

On Sunday afternoon we celebrated the kids' homecoming from Creation, and the great time they had there. Although they sure came back muddy! Landon didn't have much time to relax though, because within a couple hours of arriving home, he was off again with his friend's family for a couple days at the beach.

Next up was Canada Day! This year we didn't do a lot to celebrate it, since we were busy with so many other things. I didn't even get myself organized enough to make poutine for dinner, although I wanted to.

Then we celebrated Kennady's birthday. Turns out the hubster had the day off because of Independence Day falling on the weekend, so we had Kennady's birthday meal at lunchtime, and in the evening we went to a local firemen's carnival. We ate fried ham sandwiches and barbecue, gambled on the turtle races, shared a funnel cake, and watched a great fireworks show. When we got home, I had a tie-dye birthday cake ready for us to enjoy too. Fun way to celebrate a birthday!

Today, of course, is Independence Day and we're planning on taking in some more fireworks this evening - depending on the weather. It's been raining most of the day, so I'm glad we saw fireworks last night, just in case we decide it's not worth it to go watch tonight and risk getting soaked. I've already been out all morning and then some, as I took Landon and his friend to a Civil Air Patrol encampment. They will be there for just over a week, so I guess it will be rather quiet at our house.

Things that made me smile... these peacocks that have decided to camp out at church.

The great views of the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter that we could enjoy.
Fireflies and fireworks.
And all the things we had to celebrate this week!

34 Weeks of Clean...
I've been participating in a weekly challenge and link-up at Family, Faith, and Fridays and our assignment was the storage room/attic. To be honest, I didn't do it. Well, we got stuff out of storage that had been put there when we had the living room floor done, but not much more than that. Plus, we're also moving stuff out of the family room into storage so we can get the floors done there this coming week. Gah.

For Week 27, the assignment is our Clothes Storage. For the details of the assignment, go to Family, Faith, and Fridays. Join in if you haven't already, and check back next week for our progress!

I recommend... checking out the July Blogging Challenge hosted by Lynn at This Day Has Great Potential and Jennifer at A Glimpse of Our Life. They've given us a word prompt for each day of the month, and you can participate on a few days or all of them. This post will be linked up there for today's prompt, which is Celebrate.

Visit This Day Has Great Potential and A Glimpse of Our Life to see what others are celebrating, and to link up your own celebratory post!

I finished Now and Forever (Wild at Heart) by Mary Conneally and reviewed it on my book blog. Last week I had just finished Suddenly Mrs. Darcy by Jenetta James so I got the review written this week. Watch for that and other book-related posts on my book blog, Just A Second.
