In our homeschool... we had a rough start to the week! Probably as a result of our busy weekend, both Landon and Kennady were under the weather by Sunday evening, and didn't feel up to doing much other than sleeping until Wednesday. Kennady gave it her best shot on Monday morning, and did make it to her guitar lesson, but slept the rest of the day. On Tuesday both kids slept all day long, although Kennady thought she was sufficiently recovered to go to gym class. She made it through gym class but it wore her out so that she decided to skip choir. I would have preferred she do it the other way around! So we finally got a little bit of school done on Wednesday, and tried to put in full days yesterday and today. Kennady concentrated on Math and Literature, while Landon stayed focused on History and Science.

Thankfully, we didn't have anything in the upcoming reviews that required them to work on academics this week! In fact, the reviews we are working are mostly my job right now: Fast Transcripts (coming next week, and it will include a giveaway); The Ultimate Homeschool Planner, and Koru Naturals. We will also be reviewing the movie Do You Believe? which Kennady is pretty excited about.

In other news... So yeah, last weekend we spent Friday evening and all day Saturday at UpRise Fest 2015 which was fun and exciting. Landon and Kennady had friends that came with us, so I headed out after lunch last Friday to pick them up and we all piled in both of our vehicles and drove up to Shippensburg in the late afternoon. We really should have left earlier, because parking and standing in the line to pick up our tickets took a lot longer than we expected. That evening we saw/heard Thousand Foot Krutch, For King and Country, Crowder, Skillet, and Casting Crowns.

Getting out of the parking lot and back onto the highway along with thousands of other people was just as time consuming, so it was well into the wee hours of the morning when we got home. The kids' friends were sleeping over, of course, so we all crashed and got a few hours sleep. We couldn't sleep too late on Saturday morning, and I made a big breakfast and we packed along a cooler full of sandwiches, snacks, and drinks for the rest of the day. Some of the bands we saw/heard on Saturday were Disciple, Spoken, Family Force 5, Jeremy Camp, and Switchfoot. We made only slightly better time getting home Saturday night, so we were tired when we got to church on Sunday morning! And our worship team was leading too!

We really needed our naps on Sunday afternoon! Plus, Sunday evening, hubby's hockey league was back in action, which also meant Landon and Kennady went 'back to work' - they are scorekeepers for the league. I wanted to take an official "first day of work" picture, but they were already in the truck (hiding from the camera), so the photo turned out to feature the hockey-playing man himself.

The rest of the week has been less eventful, especially considering that some of the family was sick for part of the time. However, on a very sad note, there was a funeral service to attend on Thursday, as another man from church passed away unexpectedly on Friday night.

Things that made me smile... I got mail addressed to my blog this week! I'm sure it wasn't the first time, but it caught my eye and made me laugh!

I recommend... planning to watch the lunar eclipse on Sunday evening! For those of us in North America, this will be our last chance to see a total lunar eclipse until 2019, so you might want to have a party! Visit Classical Astronomy for more information about the eclipse, and suggestions for an eclipse party. I don't think I'll host a party, because the hubster and kids will be at hockey, but I will be headed outside to watch! (And hoping that the weather is clear!)

On the bookshelf...

Murther and Walking Spirits by Robertson Davies
Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty by Angela Hunt
A Curious Beginning: A Veronica Speedwell Mystery by Deanna Raybourn

You can find out more about what I'm reading on my book blog, Just A Second.

A parting shot...  For some reason, I'm fascinated by this jellyfish-like reflection on our garage. Or is is alien-like? It's there almost every sunny day, thanks to the sun's rays bouncing weirdly off the door and windows of the house right there. This week I decided to take a picture because... well, just because.

The music festival sounds awesome! I love homeschooling because when the kids are sick they can just do what they feel like doing and not be pushed to go when they are sick. And they can do school from bed as they feel like it. :-)
