In our homeschool . . . the main thing is that I finished grading and submitted our first semester report cards to our group administrator! Not only that, but I got Switched-On Schoolhouse up and running, so Landon is started on Consumer Math.

Beyond those two important to check off the to-do list, it was really just a week of working hard at schoolwork, and maybe a little bit of catch-up. I think both kids had a bit of a wake-up call that they probably need to put in a little more time on school than they have been. For instance, Kennady needs to work on math every day. She doesn't like to, but she has to. Landon had decided to take his time with Drafting rather than push to get it finished by the end of first semester, but that doesn't mean he can ignore it for a couple weeks. He does have to work on it steadily.

Both kids will be using some worksheets and other resources from a website we're reviewing, Help Teaching, and we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the latest audio adventure from Heirloom Audio Adventures to arrive. We'll be reviewing The Dragon and The Raven.

In other news . . . it was a cabin fever kinda week, with so many things cancelled because of the snow! Sunday church services were cancelled. Kennady's guitar lesson was cancelled. Gym class, Civil Air Patrol, and my choir rehearsal were all cancelled on Tuesday, but oddly enough Kennady's choir rehearsed as usual. That church parking lot had been cleared! On Wednesday, midweek activities at church had to be cancelled. Thankfully, the cancellations from Monday on were mostly due to standing policy (cancelling when schools are closed) and parking lots being full of snow rather than poor weather conditions. The weather during the week was actually okay - windy and cold, but no more precipitation. Yet. Apparently we're supposed to get rain and thunderstorms at the beginning of next week. As long as it waits until after Sunday, I guess.

Things that made me smile . . . that one evening I asked Spencer to get together a plate of brownies and cookies for us to nibble on with our coffee while we watched TV together. And he did this:

Never too old to be silly!

I recommend . . .  visiting the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog, today and regularly throughout the coming year. Review season has begun in earnest, and this week's review is a maple sugaring kit from Tap My Trees. How fun is that? Believe me, I wanted to try it out myself, but it might be kind of iffy here. We're a little bit too far south for me to feel confident that we'd get the sap running, but I can dream! Anyway, check out the Crew blog to see all the reviews.

On the bookshelf . . .

Worship Changes Everything by Darlene Zschech
Undaunted Hope (Beacons of Hope) by Jody Hedlund
The Coffee Trader: A Novel by David Liss
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Finished The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen, and the collection of excerpts A Taste of Traditional Regency Romances. I reviewed both on my book blog, Just A Secondand you can also find other reviews and book-related things there.

A parting shot . . . two parting shots. The sun just as it was rising one morning, and then a couple hours later. Makes me glad I get up early enough to see this almost every day.
