A Memorial Day PhotoJournal

For the past several years, we have gone to the Memorial Day parade, so that whatever we may do on the rest of the holiday, we start out by paying tribute to our fallen heroes as well as honoring veterans and those who are currently serving.

Quite honestly though, we may not have started attending the parade if Landon had not been part of Civil Air Patrol, which marches every year. I'm glad we started this traditional observance though. These are a few pictures of this year's parade.

Of course, Landon does not like his picture taken, but he at least stood still and didn't put his hand in front of my camera when I took this after the parade was over.

This picture is from a float in the parade a couple of years ago, but it remains one of my favorite images to honor the memory of those we've lost, and the sacrifice and sorrow of those left behind.

Words are even more feeble on this Memorial Day, for the sight before us is that of a strong and good nation that stands in silence and remembers those who were loved and who in return, loved their countrymen enough to die for them. ~Ronald Reagan
After yesterday's parade, we did go a cookout and enjoy the food and fun of a summer holiday. When we got home, we even got to watch a Stanley Cup playoff game on TV. But still ended the day with a cup of Soldier's Blend coffee, a blend from a local roastery (Furnace Hills Coffee) that was created in honor of The Battle of Gettysburg.

Hello there and Good Morning! I live across from the local cemetery and there was a ceremony over there yesterday with the high school band playing some patriotic tunes. Then, we went to the local VFW and had a wonderful BBQ lunch and caught up with some old friends up there. It was so nice. Then, hubby and son went to a cookout but since it was so hot out, I decided to stay home in the a/c and enjoy a movie. Lovely day but also one of reflection and remembrance.
