Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Christmas is coming!
Homeschool news  . . . I don't have much to report on in this area, since I haven't had a chance to even check Kennady's work this week. At the end of last week, I gave her an updated assignment list that gave priority to the History and Health lessons I wanted her to finish up for this week and that's what she worked on. Plus a little bit of Math. I expect she'll do some schoolwork next week, but since her grandparents are here visiting, we will definitely be taking it easy.

Tuesday was the last day of gym class for the semester, and also her last regular chorus rehearsal of the season. A dress rehearsal is set for tomorrow morning, but it's iffy whether they will go ahead with that because of the impending winter storm. Either way though, the Winter Celebration concert will take place on Sunday afternoon!

Other news . . . Our busy Friday last week ended in a delicious way - I tried a recipe that a friend sent to me via Pinterest for Maple Bacon Crack. And it was ah-maz-ing, so we will be making it again!

after baking - it looks like pizza, but it's really maple bacon candy!
I did my best to be useful and get a bunch of things done around the house on Saturday. As usual, I wasn't as successful as I'd hoped, but got some things cleaned up at least.

On Sunday afternoon, I was treated to the Joy of Christmas concert at the Washington National Cathedral. I greatly enjoyed my first look at the inside of this beautiful building, and the music was wonderful. You can see all my pictures in my post earlier this week: A National Cathedral PhotoJournal

Let's see - the rest of the week has been a bit of a blur! Kennady and I got our hair done on Monday afternoon, and we both went out for dinner in the evening with my homeschool moms group. Tuesday was as busy as it always is. Wednesday evening the kids had their Christmas party at youth group, and Kennady won a prize in the Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. She pinned the logo of the pastor's favorite baseball team and some Christmas ornaments on a sweater, and it was deemed the "tackiest Christmas sweater" and got quite a few laughs! Then we had our worship team practice, and finally that night, Spencer went with me to pick up my parents from the airport. Thankfully there were no weather delays and the snow we'd been expecting never came. (Actually, I think the updated forecast has that snow arriving tonight or tomorrow, which is potentially bad news.)

Thursday was my first day at my new job at a coffee roastery! A half day, actually, but it was a good way to start. It was so cold that few people braved the streets, so we had very few walk-in customers; and that allowed me to learn as much as I could from my co-worker. So I spent a very enjoyable afternoon roasting coffee and packaging coffee for shipping.

And I have plans to go out with Kennady and my parents this morning, so I am keeping this edition of Homeschool Highlights a little shorter. Or I thought I would, but it doesn't appear much shorter now that I look at it!

I recommend . . . signing up for IEW's Twelve Days of Christmas Giving event. There's still time to make sure you'll have a chance at all the goodies they'll offer during those days!

On my blogs last week . . .

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed Bees in the Butterfly Garden (The Gilded Legacy) by Maureen Lang, and I've been reading:

A parting shot . . . we took the classic "tease the cat with a laser pointer" thing to a new level when we tested a new star shower light inside!
