Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

What does a week in our homeschool look like?
This week my Homeschool Highlights post is also being linked to a round-up at the Homeschool Review Crew blog - A Day In Our Homeschool. So my weekly summary is going to focus on what our typical days are like . . . when we have typical days, at least. Sometimes I wonder if any of our days are typical! This is how our week usually goes:

Monday is generally an at-home school day, so we get started with schoolwork at 9am and try to prioritize any subject in which Kennady needs my help. Mondays are good days to do Science and Grammar/Composition. Not that it always works out that way! But we aim to knock off as much school as possible on Mondays.

Tuesday is our busiest day, since Kennady has gym class in the afternoon, and we have choir rehearsals in the evening (and Landon has Civil Air Patrol). Kennady works on school on her own in the morning - usually History - while I zip over to the church and look after a couple of responsibilities there. We grab a quick lunch when I get home and then rush out to gym class. If we're really lucky we get there on time! I like to get my weekly grocery run completed while she's at gym, but that hour or so is also a prime time for homeschool group meetings. Lately we've held most of our co-op planning meetings during that time frame. After gym class (and the requisite socialization time afterwards!) we head home, and maybe fit in an errand or two on the way. We have enough time at home for Kennady to shower and for us to have a quick dinner before heading back to town in the evening for our choir rehearsals. In order to save gas, we usually try to have Landon ride with us.

Wednesday is another at-home day for the most part, so it's another day that we try to get as much done as possible, and especially in subjects where my help may be needed. We have to finish our school day a little earlier than on Mondays though, because Kennady's guitar lesson is late Wednesday afternoon.

Thursdays and Fridays are the days I'm typically at work, so Kennady needs to be able to manage her own school day. She usually spends most of her time on History and Math those days, or possibly reading any assigned novels. Often she does art as well, and I bet she also spends more time chilling and less time on academics than I would like!

Other news . . . Last Friday morning, my hubby left for a business trip, and after I was finished work, Kennady and I took off for a pleasure trip. We headed to Columbus to visit my son and his wife and baby girl. We had quite a drive in fog and rain which was heavy at times, but arrived safely at our hotel and then had a great weekend. We spent all day Saturday just hanging with Harrison and Angela and Veronica, and then went to church with Harrison on Sunday morning before heading home. I sure wish spending time with them - especially with my sweet little granddaughter! - was part of every typical week!

Golly, I don't look that happy in this picture. Maybe I
just wasn't ready?!

Other than Dad not being home, from Monday on this has been a fairly typical week! Choir practices, gym class, guitar lessons, church activities, and work. One special thing though - Landon got a Civil Air Patrol promotion, and for once I was available for the ceremony.

Landon is in the back row, second from the right. These are the cadets that
earned promotions. At least half of them are homeschoolers!

And incidentally, we're getting a lot of rain, which means we need to be prepared for some flooding, but that's actually fairly typical for us this time of year! So far, so good though!

I recommend . . . visiting the Homeschool Review Crew blog to see what other Crew members are sharing in the A Day In Our Homeschool Round-up today! This post is a part of the round-up, and you'll get a chance to peek into the ordinary happenings of other homeschools through what other bloggers are sharing.

A Day in Our Homeschool 2017

If you want to know more about our usual routines and how they've changed over the years, you can look back at my series called 5 Ordinary Homeschool Days from about three years ago that walked through a typical week with my students, who were in 7th and 9th grades at the time. And then just over a year ago I did a Then and Now post which compared those previous typical days to a typical day with a freshman and a graduating junior.

A Day In Our Homeschool - Then And Now on Homeschool Coffee Break @ kympossibleblog.blogspot.com When I looked back at what a typical homeschool week was like a few years ago, it struck me that while some things really change, a lot of things don't . . .

On my blogs last week . . .

Here on Homeschool Coffee Break:

Shepherd, Potter, Spy--and the Star Namer - A Homeschool Coffee Break book review for the Homeschool Review Crew - A wonderful book about Israel's conquest of Canaan and the survival of the Gibeonites. #books #hsreviews #Bible #history

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

A parting shot . . . Kennady's photos of Veronica that she shared with me.
