Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . There actually was schoolwork completed this week! Crazy, right?! But yes, after a couple weeks of vacation time, we got back to the job of finishing up those few things we left undone from the year just past. Some history and the Shakespeare study that we started right at the end of the year. We also got started with an algebra curriculum that we will be reviewing, so that's new. It's No-Nonsense Algebra from Math Essentials, which can be used as review and prep for the SAT, or as a full curriculum. We're using it as review and prep, so for the time being, Kennady is watching the tutorials for the first chapter to get a quick overview of all the basics, and once she hits later chapters, we'll slow down and do more of the lesson exercises. Naturally she's not thrilled to be working on her least favorite subject during the summer, but at least it's not difficult at this point!

Other news . . . Thankfully, this week was not quite so hectic as some of the previous weeks, but that doesn't mean we weren't busy! On Friday, our truck broke down when Landon was on his way to work, so that evening we had to make a trip to town to get it towed to a repair facility. Not fun. Although we did decide to get Sonic for dinner while we were waiting, so that saved me having to make dinner!  Kennady went to a friend's for the evening and overnight. I picked her up on Saturday - after we picked up the repaired truck (and paid for it - Ouch!) - and we attended a graduation party.

Kennady stayed after church on Sunday to help decorate for this week's VBS program, and she was an assistant teacher and had a part in the skits each evening during the week. It seemed like everyone had a great time, but for once I didn't have any responsibilities for VBS other than making sure Kennady had a ride!

Oh look! It's the jeep!

Other than that, I did have a co-op planning meeting, and Kennady and I took the opportunity one day to do some clothes shopping for her. Kind of a rarity, especially since she picked out a dress to buy! My work schedule was a little different this week as well, as I switched days to help out a colleague and worked Monday instead of today. Which turned out to be a very good thing, since I will need to give Kennady a ride to a friend's sometime today, and we have family arriving this evening for a visit. And that means I should catch up on a bit of housekeeping to be prepared!

What I'm Learning . . . a little extra history, as we've been enjoying In The Reign of Terror from Heirloom Audio Productions. It's the newest in their series The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty, and tells the story of the French Revolution from the viewpoint of a 16-year-old Brit who visits France during this tumultuous time. Since today is Bastille Day, it's an especially good day to find out what really happened, and I recommend listening to this great story! (We are reviewing this for the Homeschool Review Crew, so watch for all the reviews in a couple of weeks!)

I purchased the no- nonsense algebra book to use with my oldest for his freshman year of high school. I can't wait to hear what you think of it (since I realized AFTER I ordered it that I was thinking a year ahead and we won't need it until after this coming school year).

I love comments! It's like visiting over a virtual cup of coffee.
