Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . Oddly enough, we did work on school this week! Yes, even though I worked an extra day and Kennady worked every day this week, we made it a priority to keep working on the review chapters of No-Nonsense Algebra. Admittedly, we didn't have time or energy for much other than that, but at least algebra is going well!

And this tidbit of news is school-related: Kennady will be an intern with the Children's Chorus this coming year, and will earn credit for that too. Pretty exciting stuff!

Other news . . . Last weekend was busy, mostly with the hockey tournament that Hubby's hockey league put on. The annual Old Fat Bald Guys summer tournament has been around for many years, and for several years now their charity has been Platoon 22, which works to reduce veteran suicide. This year's tournament raised nearly $9000. And was fun for all the guys too!

On Saturday, Kennady got home from camp so we enjoyed hearing all about how much fun she had, the friends she made, and the things she learned.

Then on Monday morning, she had to start work. Early. And she has not been all that impressed, to be honest. Seasonal work at the greenhouse is not for the faint of heart, and she's had to get up a lot earlier than she is used to, but it's a pretty good first job overall. She makes bank, and she's got some good references when she's ready to put in applications for something else. Plus it's only for about a month, because once school starts she will be done.

My boss is on vacation this week, so I worked an extra day, so it's been a busy week for all of us!

What's Working . . . or perhaps I should say Who's Working. This week we all were, including Kennady!

What's also working is No-Nonsense Algebra, which we'll be reviewing in a couple weeks. Kennady is getting a quick refresher in some of the basics, and we're hoping she'll be well prepared when it's time for her to take the SAT.

I recommend . . . I'm gonna keep recommending SchoolhouseTeachers.com because of the huge library of curriculum and resources they offer, and because it's a great price. And because the price is even better now during the Early Bird Back to Homeschool event with a great deal on full membership. Use the code HOT2017 before August 31, 2017 to get the special pricing, a free tote and the big print magazine.

That's great that even with extra work you were able to get some schoolwork done. We worked two days this week so hopefully we'll start working our way to more schooling as summer winds down.
