Kennady has been a fan of the vocal group Pentatonix for several years, and I love their music as well. She's talked about going to one of their live shows, but on the few occasions when they've been in our area, it didn't work for one reason or another. This year when they announced their tour dates, there was a show scheduled for Hershey, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour and a half from us, and Kennady wanted to make it a high priority to get tickets. To that end, I stalked the ticket sites when tickets went on sale, and did manage to get two tickets. We joked about the tickets not being real, and that we'd pay WAY too much for them (which might have been true . . . ) but we were both very excited about going. We even rescheduled our family vacation when we realized that it overlapped with the concert! And we were away this past week visiting family in Ontario (a lot more about that coming in a future PhotoJournal or two!) but made sure we got back home in time for us to get to Hershey for the show!

Let me back up for a minute and explain the "Year of Music" too - a few weeks ago, we made a rather last minute decision to attend a piano and organ concert locally, mostly because I knew the pianist. We thoroughly enjoyed that, and on the way home were discussing how many concerts we already had coming up - Pentatonix, UpRise Festival, Phil Collins, and twenty one pilots - and decided that we should try to add local and free musical performances to our calendar whenever possible through the year and make that a goal for the school year.

Last night was the big night! We arrived shortly after the gates opened, bought Kennady a tour t-shirt, and found our seats. We were in the bleachers about halfway up, so they were perfectly adequate seats, but not great.

Not long after we took this selfie, two young ladies came up and started talking to Kennady. At first I assumed they had seats right near us and were just making small talk, but they were actually asking Kennady if she'd like a wristband to move up to the pit area! YES! They were part of the Pentatonix entourage (one was Esther, a manager for the group), and scouting the bleachers for people wearing older merch and who were obviously devoted fans. And just like that, the price we paid for our tickets didn't seem so high after all.

our new location for the rest of the show
We hadn't heard of the opening act before, but loved Calum Scott's music and will be following him from now on. The next group, Echosmith, wasn't familiar to us, although we did know one of their songs already. They were fun and talented as well.

And finally, Pentatonix! They did an amazing show, and we had a fantastic view of all of it!

Kevin on stage, and on the screen of Kennady's camera.

This last collage doesn't show the group members clearly, so you might wonder why I've included them. For the same reason I liked and included the picture above - you can see Kennady in the foreground of the picture and get an idea of just how close she was. And perhaps, just a glimpse of how thrilled she was to be there.

Another favorite to end - Kennady waiting for the encore. 💖

Sharing a love of music and attending concerts together is such a wonderful way to enjoy time with young adults. Glad you had such a good time!

That's pretty neat! Our family has followed Pentatonix LONG before they were anything big. Back when they made low quality videos in their living rooms. Haha! That would be quite an experience seeing them live! Thanks for sharing.
