Homeschool Highlights - Mild Mid-Winter Edition

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world. I've been hosting this link-up for awhile, but since my youngest graduated from our homeschool, I'm now passing along the hostess baton to another homeschool blogger.

I'm so excited to be able to introduce you to the new hostess for Homeschool Highlights! Please visit Megan at My Full Heart and get to know her. For the next couple of weeks she and I will co-host the weekly Homeschool Highlights, and then I'll bow out. Thank you, Megan!

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . The weekend was busy, especially for the kids, so although Friday was a flurry of activity during the day to prepare, the evening was quiet. It was just me and hubby, Kennady and her boyfriend here for dinner. I made homemade lasagna (so good!!!) and a rich flourless chocolate cake (also so good!!!). The girls had made chocolate covered strawberries for their guys.

Hubby and I had a job to do on Friday evening - a pork shoulder to smoke for the food sales fundraiser the young adults were doing on the weekend. That's where the other kids were on Friday evening, and where they all spent the day on Saturday. The young adult group from church, with help from others, sell barbecue at a small local homeshow to raise money to sponsor kids going to camp. They had a successful run again this year! Hubby and I visited late Saturday afternoon so we could go out to dinner!

Sunday was a really quiet day, as we all caught up on sleep and just plain ol' laziness! But in the evening, before they all left for hockey, Landon made sure we heard his news: He had proposed to Meaghan on Saturday and she said yes! Sure, we all knew it was coming, but such exciting news all the same!

This week has been less hectic than the last few, at least for me! I did need to be at work earlier than usual on Monday and Tuesday, which made for a couple of rushed mornings, but it was fine. The evening were quiet so that helped. I got to stay home all day on Wednesday, which was nice, and the way I'd hoped Wednesdays would usually go this semester. In the evening, hubby and I went out to dinner with friends and had a lovely evening enjoying delicious Italian food and wonderful conversation and fellowship.

Yesterday was a very short school day for Kennady as she only had one class at college. She got to spend a little extra time hanging out with her boyfriend and other friends, and caught a ride to meet me when I was finished at co-op so she also came along with me to my standing coffee break date with a friend. My school day was a bit frustrating, to be honest. Maybe the students have an early case of spring fever or something. At least half of my Writing class students had some kind of trouble with the assignments they turned in and I felt like I was pretty rough on them in class. After all, some of the issues were things they'd been expected to do since the beginning of the course, and all they had to do was follow the instructions. I don't get it. And I've found that the Lit class discussion doesn't go so well when not everyone has read what they're supposed to in the novel. So I was a bit stern with them as well. Here's hoping that a little tough love this week will right the ship so next week will be better!

What's Coming Up . . . a wedding! Well, it's still over a year away, but it's official now! Landon and Meaghan are now engaged and plans are under way. And I couldn't be happier!

Choosing attendants for the wedding!

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Connect Five Friday - Snowed In
Wordless Wednesday - A Sweet Valentine's Day
The Blizzard Bride
Scripture and a Snapshot - Love Is
Connect Five Friday - Featuring a Heart

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
The Curse of the Healing Kiss by Mark McClelland
The Next Always by Nora Roberts

A parting shot . . . Hubby and I found these costume/union suits on clearance and thought the kids needed gifts for Valentine's Day! The reactions were even more positive than we'd expected! Hilarious!!

Congratulations to Landon and Meaghan! How exciting!! I love the costumes as well. I think most kids are getting spring fever. Mine have been in rare form the past few weeks!
