Go, Kennady! Go!!

Just had to post a quick entry - Kennady just came to me a little bit ago and said "Mom, I want to read a book to you"  That in itself isn't unusual, because she often "reads" to me.  But up until today she just told me the story in her own words as she turned the pages.  Today she actually READ the book.  And did a very good job too!!!  This what what she chose to read:

She's been less than enthusiastic up until the past week or so about doing anything with phonics, and personally I don't like forcing it.  So I don't.  I knew (from past experience with Landon) that one day she would "feel like" reading and then it would be practically effortless.  Looks like today was that day.

Congratulations on your daughter's reading! It is a great day when we see our kids progress.

Congratulations! Yippee! I know that same joy and it is such a relief when that happens. Almost as good as when they are toilet trained. :-)

The same switch flipped in my first grader this year. He wasn't keen on reading, but we did it anyway. We happened to buy him his very own "big boy Bible" at a garage sale last month, and his reading skills and enjoyment have skyrocketed. I love when that happens! :')

That's encouraging, I have a son who isn't reading yet(he's 7) and I just know that he's got to want to be able to do it!

That's great! Yes, it's best to start when THEY are ready. I remember when our oldest was 4 and wanted to learn how to read sooooo bad she would cry & beg, but being new to this hs thing then, I gently said no, she would have to wait until she turned 5 and was in (our) kindergarten. Silly me! Oh, if I only had it all to do over again.

Has she kept it up? How is she doing now?

I got the swinging chair at the garage sale for just $5, so I felt I couldn't go wrong. I'm glad I did. Now I just have to get my dh to put up another bolt to hang my hammock chair on so we can use both at the same time!

Thanks for stopping by!
