Homeschool Weekly: December Edition

In our homeschool...   we are on Christmas break, but there have been a few things along the way that would count as school. We took a couple of "field trips" while at Deep Creek, and Kennady has been busy with art.
In other news... It's wonderful to have my parents here over the holidays and we are having a great time with them. We went to Deep Creek for a few days, and now back at home we are baking and playing games and doing puzzles. At the beginning of the week, we even had friends stop in for a visit as they traveled for the holidays - what a treat!

For the first time in many years, we celebrated Christmas here at home, so we tried a few things just a bit differently from what we usually do. Some things very much like what my family did when I was a kid, actually! We opened our presents at midnight on Christmas Eve, and then slept late on Christmas Day. It worked out great, despite a bit of initial resistance from one of the kids. *cough*Landon*cough*

At the Christmas Eve service, Kennady and I sang one of the specials, and Kennady provided the "live art" during another special. It was beautiful, and I'm so proud of her for being willing to give that a try!
Things that made me smile... celebrating Christmas with my family has made me smile more than anything else this past week.

I recommend... this is more of a request... if you've got any posts about how your family celebrates the Christmas season from Christmas Day through Epiphany, I would love it if you'd link those up on my post, Our Family's Twelve Days of Christmas

On the bookshelf...
I'm not reading much right now, but here's the list of books I've finished recently. Some of them have been reviewed on my book blog, Just A Second.
Star of the East: A Lady Emily Christmas Story by Tasha Alexander
In Time for Christmas by Heather Blanton
A Highlander for Christmas by Jamie Carie
Night of a Thousand Stars by Deanna Raybourn
Look and Live: Behold the Soul-Thrilling, Sin-Destroying Glory of Christ by Matt Papa

A parting shot...
