January's Art Challenge: Doorways
The hosts of the Virtual Refrigerator are giving a themed challenge to each other and to our readers each month. For January, the theme is Doorways. Many of us know that the first month on the calendar was named for a mythical Roman god named Janus, but I didn't know that his name comes from the Latin word (ianua) meaning 'door' - since January is the door to the year. Can you find a way to feature doors or doorways in your student's art this month? Share your doorway themed art here! Please continue to share any art posts on our Virtual Fridge as well - we love seeing all of them!

Kennady has been doing some fan art featuring some of her favorite books, movies, and shows. How cool that she did this wardrobe door from the Chronicles of Narnia, so I can feature another doorway in the challenge!

And shortly after that they looked into a room that was quite empty except for one big wardrobe; the sort that has a looking-glass in the door... "Nothing there!" said Peter, and they all trooped out again - all except Lucy. She stayed behind because she thought it would be worthwhile trying the door of the wardrobe, even though she felt almost sure that it would be locked. To her surprise, it opened quite easily...

Kennady told me that she planned to do Bilbo Baggins's doorway soon, although I haven't seen that yet. Make sure to come back to my Virtual Fridge next week to see if she remembered! Check out the other artwork displayed on our Virtual Fridge this month as well.
You can grab the button above and add it to your post. Add your link here to share your child's art or your arts and crafts how-to posts. Please visit the other blogs and admire what's on their Virtual Refrigerators!

What a detailed wardrobe door. That is one of my favorite books from my childhood, and my kids have enjoyed reading it and watching the movies, too.
