In our homeschool . . . with a few exceptions, we were very hard at work on school this week. History and Geography were the featured subjects, for the most part. I think I will probably decide to award Kennady's math credit next year, since she has been moving slowly on it (read: neglecting it sometimes!) and I'd rather she take her time and really learn it than rush and not truly understand. Which doesn't mean she can neglect it now, just that I want her to try a slow and steady approach, with an emphasis on "steady". We got some writing done this week, so that's back on track after a little break.

The reviews we've got coming up include:

Poetry Memorization resources from IEW
The Progeny Press literature study of The Scarlet Pimpernel
The Glass Castle, a book from Shiloh Run Press

What's Working . . . I am loving how well the poetry memorization is going, and pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable we're finding it! I'm preparing to share our review of Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization from IEW this coming week, and am delighted to report that Kennady and I are having a great time with it!

In other news . . .  We didn't really do anything special on Mother's Day, which was more or less planned because the kids took me out for Mother's Day dinner about a week previous. But I did get to relax that day and not worry about getting meals or doing dishes or whatever. Not that I usually do much of that kind of thing on Sundays, but still! And I decided I should be allowed to cheat on my diet just a little bit, so I indulged in the delicious cookies in this beautiful box of treats my oldest son and his girlfriend sent me for Mother's Day.

Speaking of the diet, the hubster and I made it through the first two weeks of our diet plan, one that had us giving up almost all carbs for that time period. So no bread, pasta, potatoes, fruit, dairy (except cheese), or sweets. As of yesterday, we're officially past that first stage and can reintroduce many of those kinds of things back into our diet; and we celebrated our first stage success with pizza for dinner! I had yogurt for breakfast this morning and boy, did it taste good!

Yesterday afternoon we took a break from schoolwork so I could take Landon shopping for his suit for grad. As with the older boys, we buy that formal outfit as part of our grad gift, and with a Junior Senior Banquet coming up next week, Landon wanted to make sure he had his clothes ready to go. He chose a nice black suit, and a fairly dark purple dress shirt, and a funky tie. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the full kit on Friday! This coming week I need to help Kennady get some accessories for her dress for that event, and she needs her hair done too. So do I, actually . . .

I recommend . . . visiting the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog to see how other Crew members finish the sentence "Our Biggest Homeschool Blessing is . . .". for this past week's Round-up. One of the blessings I wrote about is The Blessing of Friendships.

On the bookshelf . . .

The Prophetess: Deborah's Story (Daughters of the Promised Land) by Jill Eileen Smith
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Curiosity Keeper (A Treasures of Surrey Novel) by Sarah E. Ladd
The Coffee Trader: A Novel by David Liss

I just finished These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer, and plan to post my review this weekend. You'll be able to find that review and others on my book blog, Just A Second.

A parting shot . . . This was the "obligatory mother-daughter selfie" Kennady took on Sunday afternoon.
