Hello! I'm excited to be sharing over at Castle View Academy about some of the fun things to do and see in my state of Maryland. I actually grew up in western Canada, so when we moved to Maryland a number of years ago, I was seeing it as a tourist and looking for interesting things to do. Now I consider it my home, but I'm still fascinated by all it has to offer and enjoy sharing some of these highlights with others.
The quick virtual tour of some of the places we've discovered includes:
Historic St Mary's City, where the colony of Maryland was first settled.
The replica Maryland Dove, a working square-rigged ship.
|
The National Monument park at Fort McHenry, where attorney Francis Scott Key wrote his poem The Star-Spangled Banner during the War of 1812.
The Star-spangled Banner displayed at Fort McHenry. |
Civil War sites such as Antietam National Battlefield and Monocacy National Battlefield.
The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park where you can visit the original Great Falls Tavern and even take a ride on a canal boat towed by mules.
Catoctin Mountain Park, home to a section of the Appalachian Trail, and other hiking and camping locations like Swallow Falls State Park in the Deep Creek area of western Maryland.
Join me at Castle View Academy for the rest of this post, and meet my friend Crystal. My guest post is part of her series "A Postcard from . . . Awesome Things to Do Around the World" Stop by and say Hello!
