From time to time we get to review products that aren't exactly homeschool curriculum, and this was one of those occasions. We were asked to put together some of these cute Halloween tracts from a company called Let The Little Children Come and then share our thoughts. So if you're looking for ideas for upcoming seasonal parties, take a look at these Is There Anything Better Than Candy? Box-Tracts.
Let The Little Children Come provides child evangelism tools and resources to help people share the gospel message with children in simple but attention-grabbing ways. They make interesting tracts that are colorful and hold children's attention without distracting from the gospel message. The company is not affiliated with any church or organization, but does have a simple Christian Statement of Faith on their website for you to view.
We received a package of twenty of these cute candy boxes that ask the question "Is there anything better than candy?" They are actually bigger than the little graphic might indicate. Before assembling, the lightweight cardboard sheet is about 8-1/2 inches square. The pumpkin shape is die-cut, so it's the work of a few seconds to punch it out and fold it into the little box that's about three inches by two inches and big enough to hold a fun-size chocolate bar or child-size fistful of candies.
When the pumpkin is opened to reveal whatever candy or treat you've stashed inside, the inside of the box reveals a bright-colored design like the petals of a flower. The numbered petals answer the question that yes, there is something better than candy - becoming friends with God! Each petal explains the gospel message of God's love, the problem of sin, why Jesus came to die and be raised to life again, and how to accept God's forgiveness.
Trunk or Treat craft stations 2016 - just one place we could incorporate these candy boxes. |
I also like the idea of having a Sunday School class of kids put them together so that each child could take one or two with them along with a challenge to share the candy and message with a friend. They really aren't limited to Halloween and would be an appropriate treat during any fall themed event - think harvest party or even Thanksgiving - where there are children who would love a sweet treat.
Another outreach that our church has done is to provide meal packages to families during the holiday season. We've done this near Christmas and near Valentine's Day, but if we were putting together the packages during the fall, this would be a cute addition to the gift. I'm sure there are many other creative ways these candy-boxes could be shared as well.
