Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
Kennady has put in a couple of requests for donuts this week, so I guess I'll try to remember to bring some home after work today.
Homeschool news . . . Let's see . . . Algebra, French, Latin, but I don't think she did any History this week. Doesn't feel like she had much of a break from school this summer at all, and I feel bad about that. Although the Algebra did not have to take this long - that's mostly the result of procrastinating and avoiding. The good news is that the end is in sight! With French, she is working ahead for next year; Latin is something we're reviewing and it's actually rather fun! And History is just some reading that we'd decided to spread out a bit.
BUT. With her senior year about to start, the importance of sticking to a schedule and not allowing herself to fall behind anywhere is being driven home. In fact, she's got a great opportunity to basically earn her tech credit with a sort of internship at her part time job --- but it will put a bit of extra demand on her time. We don't know how much her schedule will be affected yet, but I admit I started to think if there was any course she was planning to take that she could safely drop. Well, guess what? The ones that are purely elective and she could drop? Those are the ones she most wants to do.
For my part, I tried to get to the lesson plans this week but was too busy to finish those up. I have some planning left to complete for the Writing class at the co-op; and I've got one course that I need to plug into the Homeschool Tracker Online lesson plan. We start school in just over two weeks, but one of those weeks will be vacation so I think I'll need to make time this weekend to work on that.

Other news . . . We decided to try a family outing on Saturday, after all the rain we've had recently we all thought that it would be appropriate to go out and enjoy a mostly sunny day. So after getting a bit of work done in the morning, we set out for a state park in Pennsylvania, a bit less than an hour away.
You can't see it but behind all those black-eyed susans is our front porch, which Landon is working on - putting new decking on it. |
But remember all that rain I mentioned? We should have realized the ground would be muddy. Someone had thoughtfully left some scraps of cardboard to help get through this patch of muck. So far - so good. A little mud wasn't going to stop us . . .
. . . or so we thought.
At this point, we reconsidered our options.
The kids gave it a try while the hubster and I waited, but they didn't get more than a few yards beyond the bridge before discovering that it only got worse. So we gave up on that and took our muddy selves back to the car!
We did go over the lake area of the park and look around a bit, and then on our drive we discovered an old cemetery at a nearby church and explored that a bit.
This is the oldest gravestone we located - 1856. Some were undoubtedly older, judging from how worn and weathered they were.
The work and school week has been very busy, with each of us having meetings or other commitments during evenings. Kennady and I spent all of Tuesday afternoon out so she could hang out with one of her best friends before he leaves for college. And we spent Thursday evening out with friends as well. Hopefully things will be a little less hectic this coming week, giving us a bit of a breather before vacation and school!
What's Coming Up . . . Next week is the 5 Days of Homeschool Encouragement Blog Hop hosted by the Homeschool Review Crew, as we all get ready for Back to School! I'll be combining my Blog Hop posts with a kickoff to a "How Do You Homeschool" series that I'm planning for the fall.
The series will answer some of the curiosity type questions homeschoolers ask each other, and I'll start by answering these questions in the Blog Hop:
How Do You Stay Motivated When Homeschooling is Hard?
What Curriculum Are You Using in Your Homeschool?
How Do You Fit Electives Into Your Homeschool Schedule?
What Are You Thankful For this Homeschool Year?
What Are Your Favorite Homeschool Tools and Resources?

We love old cemeteries! We never get tired of reading the headstones and wondering about different lives.
oh.... I love walking through old graveyards, the lads think I'm weird, but it's a love of mine. :)
We've done that too-- headed out hiking when the sun finally showed it's face only to find that everything was really muddy and buggy too.
