Coffee Break Reading List (March 16, 2020)

Not surprisingly, everyone is talking about the coronavirus these days, so my current reading list round-up reflects that, but I've included some other things too.  A little something for St. Patrick's Day, and a reminder that World Down Syndrome Day is on March 21st. And yeah, it's late in the day. I really meant to get this done about twelve hours ago, but I had to get to work, and then the grocery store was a ZOO (like everywhere, right?!), and then dinner . . . here we go!!

Some of the things around the web that I've been reading or exploring during recent coffee breaks:

  • Mark Odon at The Gospel Coalition is in Italy, and a few days ago he shared 8 Things the Coronavirus Should Teach Us. Good, thoughtful read.
  • Love What Matters has so many touching posts. This one really hit home - a woman brought to tears while picking up groceries after she meets an elderly man puzzled about why there's no toilet paper in the store. People, please be kind and be thoughtful. Do buy what you need for your family, but remember that everyone else needs groceries and supplies for their families too. Let's be especially considerate of these older folks.
  • Hat tip to my pastor for this article at the New Yorker: A Photographer's Parents Wave Farewell. This is just so sweet. Or perhaps bittersweet. This photographer chronicled years of her parents waving good-bye as she pulled out of their driveway after visits. Lots of memories!!
  • March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day so I wanted to share this from Bored Panda - Kids With Down Syndrome Pose as Disney Characters For a Beautiful Awareness Campaign. As part of an awareness campaign for Down Syndrome, a British photographer posed children as favorite Disney characters, and they are just so precious! I work at a coffee roastery that employs people with developmental disabilities, and we are fundraising for the National Down Syndrome Society. The 3.21 Run/Walk is cancelled because of COVID-19 but you can still find out more, donate, or buy our coffee at the Furnace Hills Coffee website.
  • And finally, since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, when everyone likes to be just a bit Irish, here's something from my archives: A Taste of Europe - St. Patrick's Day

I came across this quote just over a week ago when I was looking for something unrelated, and I can't get it out of my head. What do you think of it?

Some fun things I've found during coffee breaks:

And every St. Patrick's Day, I share my all time favorite clip from The Muppet Show:
