Send

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is an extra 10 Day Writing Prompt Challenge from Five Minute Friday. From March 2nd to March 11th, those of us who are taking part are aiming to write for five minutes each day on this set of prompts. Although I'm writing each day, I'm not publishing each day. This is what I wrote on Saturday, Day Six, prompted by the word "send".

i am sending you out
here am i - send me
i forgot to hit the 'send' button

A couple days ago I was trying to transfer event tickets to a friend. I've done it many times before - used the ticketmaster app to transfer tickets to someone via text message. This time it didn't work. I sent that message three or four times but he never received it. He was texting me and receiving my replies, so I had the right number. I could see the messages with the tickets link in the same thread, showing that they were sent but he had not received them.

God has sent us - his disciples - into all the world to share the good news of his kingdom. He's hit that send button many times, so what's the problem? Is it frustrating on some level for God to see that the message has been sent into the world but the world isn't receiving it?

There could be any number of reasons the message isn't getting through or isn't received. The parable of the sower reminds us that sometimes the seed doesn't fall where it can grow. I just hope that the fault isn't with me, with those of us who are supposed to be living and telling the message. I hope we're always faithful when we are sent.

By the way, we finally concluded that probably our friend wasn't receiving the texted tickets because this was one of those occasions on which android and iPhones weren't communicating. We tried emailing the tickets instead - and that message was received. We didn't give up on the message - we just sent it a different way.

We found a way to send it so that it could be received.

"Come,  follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." ~Matthew 4:19

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." ~Matthew 28:19-20

Our pastor has been having the congregation recite the Great Commission after the service before dismissing us.

The song from many years ago kept coming to mind as I read your post, "So Send I You!" So nice to meet you on this 10-Day Challenge Link-up.

This is a great post! I love the link you make between the difficulty sending the tickets to your friend and the difficulty God often has with us in trying to send us out. I'm glad he doesn't give up!
