Five Minute Friday - Danger

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

danger - keep out
clear and present danger

********************

What do you do when you see a warning sign? A sign of danger? I guess most of the time it really depends on the situation. I have to admit that sometimes I see a KEEP OUT sign and think "pffft. That's nothing to worry about" and don't pay much attention. Usually that's because I have additional information or experience and I know what I'd be dealing with. But that's rare. When we see a sign telling us that there is real danger ahead, we need to take that seriously. If there's a warning sign that there are buried power lines, don't dig! If there's a fence to keep you a safe distance from a cliff, don't climb over it! If the road is flooded, turn around - don't drown!

Most people would never take the foolish chance of jumping the fence into an animal enclosure at the zoo, and wouldn't let their kids play tag in heavy traffic, yet it seems we don't take spiritual warning signs seriously.

Are you alert to potential danger? We shouldn't be living in constant fear, but the basic safety rule of being aware of our surroundings should guide us in making wise choices about the influences we allow in our lives. We would be wise to limit our exposure to teaching or entertainment that is contrary to what the Bible teaches. We would be wise to study God's Word so that we recognize when something is 'off'. We would be wise to teach our children to do the same, and to protect our children from harmful influences.

How many movies and shows and popular songs can you enjoy before the world's twisted ideology affects how you think? How many unbiblical worldviews can creep into your mind without you seeing those red flags? How many hours of godless philosophy are your children being subjected to at school? Some of the answers are different depending on your situation, but if you notice a sign that there's danger . . . don't be foolish. Don't take unnecessary chances with your heart and soul.

The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
~Proverbs 22:3~

To me, Keep Out says Come On In!,
and DANGER tells me Fun Is Here,
and dear wife cannot begin
to know how I survived the year.
I'm best of friends with a young bull
who should be in fetters,
for when testosterone was full
he gored two of my betters.
But we have understanding,
the riding bull and I,
and when bucked off and landing
I know I am not gonna die,
'cause in killing me he won't enjoy
more games with me, his human toy.

I'll admit, I do (on occasion) ignore red flags in order to save myself time or because I believe that I know better. Of course, I "surprised" when things blow up in my face.

Wonderful reminder to not only pay attention to physical danger signs but to Spiritual ones too. I do my best to control my imput for this very reason. Thank you!

It's so important to listen to those Danger Signs - even when it doesn't make sense! I like where you went with this prompt!
