National Grammar Day

My MSN homepage informed me this morning that today is National Grammar Day.  I had not heard of it before today, but I certainly like the idea.  I've often wondered if I should have pursued a career in editing, since I can be completely distracted by grammatical and spelling errors in printed work.  On the other hand, my own writing (I should clarify: informal writing) is certainly not correct all the time.  My belief is that friendly e-mails and letters, message boards, and informal blogs are usually written in the same way they would be spoken, which is not always correct.  So, lest anyone think I am properly horrified by mistakes they make in their blogs or messages --- I am not.  Chances are, I don't notice, and I probably make some of the same mistakes myself.  I make my share of typos, that's for sure!!! I would hate to have the SPOGG (Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar) people rate my blog for grammatical correctness (which is admittedly far more important to me than political correctness )!!  But the National Grammar Day website does make for humourous and educational reading.  Please do check it out!!  I love the "Top 10 Grammar Tips" and learned something from reading them too.  The first tip on that page is probably the thing that regularly irritates me - the misuse of the words "me, myself, and I"

Armed with the resources from that website, I'm confident I can teach correct English grammar to my children.

After all, as I like to say to homeschool critics who wonder whether we're qualified to teach:

Shoot, me and Bubba is purty smart, so'se we learn them chilluns everything we knowed and they be eddicated real good-like!
