President's Day at Mount Vernon

We have lived less than two hours away from Mount Vernon for the past 14 years and have never visited. Oh, I have wanted to, but never actually got it done. Until yesterday. Mount Vernon was offering free admission in honor of President's Day and Washington's birthday, and it was an offer I couldn't pass up. (Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for kids so I saved a chunk of change by going on a free day) Of course, the place was PACKED. But we expected that. We went together with another homeschooling family so we could share the cost of gas, and we each had someone in our own age bracket to hang out with all day long. The weather was cool and it drizzled or rained off and on all day, but it wasn't really unpleasant.

Do we look suitably "somber"?? I think I look awful, and this is before I blacked out!

Okay, the reference to me blacking out... yes, I did. Combination of being very hungry and I don't know what else, but I guess my blood sugar dropped low enough that I was having trouble holding it together. Thankfully my friend Lisa wrestled me onto the grass rather than let me do a faceplant on the gravel path. At least that's her story. ;-) A little adventure, but no damage done, except the grass stain to the knee of my pants. A fig newton fixed me up in no time, and we laughed at my expense the rest of the day. 8-)
