December's Art Challenge: Advent and Christmas
It shouldn't come as any surprise that the Virtual Fridge would like to feature artwork with the themes of Advent or Christmas during December! Please continue to share any art posts on our Virtual Fridge - we love seeing all of them!
This might not seem like Christmas themed art at first glance, but it is. Kennady was asked to design a backdrop for the kids Christmas play at church. The play is called "Christmas in Kid City" and the director asked for a city skyline seen through a window. This was Kennady's sketch for what she had in mind.
These photos taken on performance night are not as clear; I think I should have used a different setting on my camera.

Then the design had to be pencilled onto the 8'x10' canvas . . .
and finally, painted. For the painting, we took it to the youth center where there was room to spread it out on the floor, and Kennady had two friends that helped do the painting, which took two days.
When the paint was dry, it was taken to the church and hung up on the platform. I took this picture that night after the dress rehearsal, and I still like it better than the pictures I took yesterday evening just before the performance. In this one, the colors are more true.
