Last week I did something a little unusual - I got to go on a field trip that did not include any of my family members. And although it had a lot of potential for education, it was not a school related trip at all. This was a day out for employees of the coffee roastery where I work - but it didn't have anything to do with coffee either!
Here's the deal. I work part-time as a manager of a small batch coffee roastery. At Furnace Hills Coffee, we roast great coffee, but we're also committed to employing people with developmental disabilities. One of these special people is Chris, who just celebrated five years as an employee with the company. Chris has a few things he is passionately interested in, one of which is trains. So to celebrate his five-year anniversary, we closed the shop for a day and drove up to Strasburg to take Chris to the Toy Train Museum, ride on the Strasburg Rail Road, and have lunch together. We had a beautiful day to ride the rails!
Views of the farmland from our train car. Strasburg is in Lancaster County, PA, in the heart of Amish country.
you can see some of the smoke from the locomotive in this shot! |
At the end of the line, the locomotive uncoupled from the front of the train, and went around to the back to pull us back.
We had a Canadian National locomotive!
One of the stops is at a picnic area.
