Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

My Quebec Starbucks mug. I've never been to Quebec. I bought this at a Starbucks in Maryland. Weird. But it's such a neat looking mug, and I am hoping to visit Quebec someday!

Homeschool news  . . . We've had a good week of school, despite cold weather and interruptions and a few bumps along the road. Interruptions are nothing unusual, I guess! Everything went pretty much according to plan except that we weren't able to have the End of Semester conference I'd hoped to do with the hubster and Kennady at the beginning of the week. We talked about a few of the things on that conference agenda though, and it sounds like we will go ahead and plan on Kennady taking the Intro to Business course at co-op.

Sort of a strange timing thing - yesterday was the start of second semester at co-op, but first semester for our oversight group isn't until next week. It doesn't really matter, except that I should have sent first semester grades to my co-op students. But I have a bit more time before I need to submit Kennady's report card! The other thing I need to do is reach out to all the families that are under me in the oversight group and do their mid-term reviews.

Other news . . . we had planned to have friends over for dinner on Saturday night, and were finally going to celebrate Landon's birthday. He requested salmon for dinner, and since we had the smoker out anyway we also smoked a bacon wrapped meatloaf. The poor guy had to buy his own birthday cake though! Well, he didn't HAVE to, but since he was out anyway and wanted an ice cream cake I told him to just pick out what he wanted. The unfortunate part of the evening was that we had a winter weather warning and it started to snow in the early evening. Our friends that had planned to join us decided to stay home, just to be safe, so our party was a little smaller than we'd hoped.

Sunday morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. Not a lot of snow really, but enough that our church services were cancelled, as were most services in the area.

It gave us a nice opportunity to sleep later than usual and have a relaxed day before we were all back to our usual busy work and school schedules starting on Monday. I had the chimney sweep in on Wednesday so now there are no more excuses from my boys - they need to keep our woodstove going so the house is warm! Especially as we got more snow last night and it will be cold on the weekend!

What I'm Highlighting . . . my guest post over at the Homeschool Review Crew blog today, where I share some ideas for getting back into homeschool mode after a break, like we've just done!

While you're there, take a look at the other articles on all things homeschooling and all the Crew reviews. Recently Crew members reviewed something pretty neat called Practice Monkeys - online violin lessons! Our new Crew season just got underway, so next week you can look for Crew reviews of a resource that I often recommend, SchoolhouseTeachers.com and there will be lots more reviews coming after that!

I recommend . . .

Visiting this FlyBy Review and Giveaway post on my Just A Second blog, to find out more about a great resource I just reviewed: 30 Days to Understanding The Bible by Max Anders. The giveaway ends in just over a week. (by the way, I've noticed that my graphics from Amazon are sometimes not working but haven't had time yet to figure out why, so I added a preview link here as it looks like those do work reliably!)

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

30 Days to Understanding the Bible (A FlyBy Review and Giveaway)
Wordless Wednesday - Winter Sunrise
Recent Reads - Silent on the Moor
Scripture and a Snapshot - Trust in the Lord

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I reviewed Silent on the Moor (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery Book 3) by Deanna Raybourn and 30 Days to Understanding The Bible by Max Anders, and I've been reading:

Humorous Stories and Sketches by Mark Twain
The Alamo Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower) by Kathleen Y'Barbo
Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery Book 4) by Deanna Raybourn

A parting shot . . . I had been sitting on some birthday money and finally decided what I was going to spend some of it on - coffee!! Is anyone really surprised?!  White Russian coffee, Irish Cream coffee, Highland Grog, and Maple Bacon. I also got one called Mustachio - it's Pistachio flavored! Yeah. Unusual, but I'm looking forward to trying these!

Those snow pictures look so pretty! I think we might have a few of those by next week. My son made his own cake; he didn't have to either but he wanted to!

Bacon wrapped meatloaf? That sounds great. We didn't have a lot of snow but it has been super cold.

Snow!! It is cold here but no snow. I wouldn't want it all the time but we really enjoy it when we get a couple days of it. I need to go check out those book reviews as well.
