Progress report

Seems odd to call this a progress report when we've only completed two days of school.  I didn't really report on Day One, but believe me, Day Two was SO much better! LOL

The first day included the anticipated delays while I explained how the schedule would work, what we'd be doing in each subject, etc, and while we looked for books and materials that we thought would be easy to locate.  They weren't.  I still can't find the three-hole punch.   What aggravated me on Day One was the noise level - Harrison's voice is changing, and is particularly grating, especially when he is in an argumentative mood.  Like yesterday.  Spencer didn't say much, but he can make all kinds of "thinking" noises.  Landon asked me about 692 times "what's next? when do we do reading? Is this for Science?" or something related --- even though I had already answered the questions! Kennady loves to sing and dance, and she talks non-stop.  This is very cute, but can also trigger headaches when combined with everyone else's contribution.

All that being said, we did get through each of the subjects we are starting with. Yesterday, Day Two, was a great improvement - obviously we didn't waste nearly as much time looking for *stuff* and the noise level was somewhat better.  Again, got through all our subjects.

I love how excited my younger two are about learning to read!  Landon is in Grade 2 now, and reading just about everything.  Seemed like he caught on partway through Grade 1, and now there's no stopping him.  I just hope he doesn't get bored working through the reading/phonics book this year!  I think it will go very quickly, so he may be ready to start the next book (or something completely different for Language Arts) before the school year is up.  Kennady is just starting to learn, but it's so heart-warming to see her excitement.  And it reminded me again how much I would be missing if I had sent my kids to public school.  Being able to experience with my children those "first steps" in reading and math is every bit as memorable in my opinion as their physical first steps and milestones.

I'm looking at my computer clock and can see that I have only 3 minutes to post this and get out to the dining room where we will start the day with breakfast and our Bible reading.

Looking forward to an even better day today!
