I am posting a quick Show and Tell, and then I've got to run...
Can you guess which thumb is Kennady's "sucking thumb?"
We were supposed to make a sticker chart yesterday to keep track of how long she was going without putting the thumb in her mouth. She wants to break the habit by her birthday in July. The sticker chart will have to wait till this evening or tomorrow because we are doing a lot of running around today and there's no time!
(Anyone have experience with a thumb-sucking child and have helpful tips on helping them quit? I think she's ready this time - I hope so, because otherwise we will have way more orthodontic costs than I want to think about in the future! LOL)

Sometimes pretty nail polish will help them feel grown up. Sometimes instead of sucking their thumb they just scrap the polish off with their teeth..ugh!
Hot pepper juice has been known to slow it down until they learn to like it or rub it in their eyes...
Telling them it is summer and if they suck their thumb they will get pinworms...doesn't help either.
Yep, no good ideas here! I do know a good dentist though!

ps my Show and Tell is up.
Cute Show & Tell! Sorry, I don't have any suggestions! For some reason our girls never sucked their thumbs (they never took nukies either). I wonder why?
My oldest sucked his thumb until he was 6, I think. It was shriveled and had a bump on it. He quit by putting a glove on that hand (his idea) at night. He chew a whole through the glove, but he stopped sucking his thumb. I never thought we'd get it done!

Shhhhhhh don't tell anyone. I was a HORRIBLE thumb sucker till......age 12 ((blush)). The only thing that stopped me was that I had a head gear b/c of my overbite . Result of sucking thumb. So I would make sure I had that on all the time. Every time I stuck my thumb in my mouth it HURT. So it stopped me. Have you asked you dentist if they have any thing that would help ? I am sorry I wasn't the best example but I can sympathize with your dd. (0=

When she was six we wouldn't let her do it. She'd hide under her blankets to do it. We tried duct taping her thumb and first finger together at night - it helped some. Then I think we used some sort of incentive - like if you don't suck your thumb for a week we'll take you out to Pizza Hut or something. She was ready and she did it.
I hope your little one can overcome it too.

he was a thumb sucker for a long time ... his thumb looked terrible and was all blistered or calloused or something.
He is going to be 11 in July and he is completely done sucking his thumb ... and he just decided on his own, which is how he learned to read and write and tie his shoes and ride a bike.
lazy? not sure
relaxed? for sure
My oldest never sucked his thumb, and I guess when the other one did I never cared a whole lot.
now, potty training ... ughh.
I had a friend that sucked her thumb a lot when we were kids and she chewed all her nails off all of the time. I remember that her mom had gotten a special nail polish that was child safe that you put on and it tasted HORRIBLE! She stopped in a hurry : ) Maybe someone might know what it was or where you can find it now.
Blessings,

I don't have any experience with thumbsucking. But a friend of mine's daughter broke herself of the habbit. She chose to wear gloves at bed time to help her not to suck her thumb.
