Homeschool Memoirs #7 {Favourite Snacks}

THEME

Awhile back Mother Dear received a question on what snack foods to buy for homeschooling families, on the go or at home, and she inspired this week’s theme. There are so many different kinds of snack foods, store-bought and homemade, and I would like to invite you to share what snack foods your family usually snacks on throughout the week. You’re welcome to make season lists too. I know there are different meals we eat during the colder seasons than we do in the warmer ones, and I imagine there are also seasonal snack foods as well.

I wish we had healthier snack habits, but I guess it could be worse!!  The kids definitely have a sweet tooth and like to have things like cookies, brownies and poptarts available for snacking.  Sometimes I make use of cookie tins - each kid has their own tin, and I divide up a batch of cookies between the tins.  Then they can only eat their share and when they're gone, they're gone.  LOL  I got tired of hearing one of them tell me that another had eaten all of a certain kind of cookie and "I didn't get ANY!"  So that solves that particular issue.   Other favourite snacks include:

  • applesauce

  • freeze pops

  • popcorn

  • crackers and cheese  (actually CHEESE)

  • bananas

  • grapes

  • yogurt

  • homemade milkshakes

When we go to the homeschool gym class on Friday afternoons, they always pack along a cooler with gatorade drinks and when I stop at the grocery on the way home, they beg for Little Debbies.  I have to admit that since Little Debbies don't cost that much, I tend to give in on that request.  It's a cheap treat for once in awhile.

Very, very smart idea about the separate cookie tins! I wish I had thought of that years ago when my boys were small. My hubby was just complaining about the fact that he hasn't seen a Little Debbie in the house for months!LOL We told him about the goodies we plan to make this coming week and he decided they were better than Little Debbies. hehe

I wish we could be healthier eaters here...

but we are not!

I usually have the kids eat some cut and peeled carrots daily.

I like your idea of dividing up the cookies in tins. I'm always trying to make sure there's enough for everybody too, but if they had they had their own it would solve the problem!!

I love comments! It's like visiting over a virtual cup of coffee.
