Weekly Wrap-Up: May 27th Edition

(Sorry - I am drawing a complete blank for a clever title)

In our homeschool this week... we put the finishing touches on Science, and Landon finished his Bible course. Kennady did an Art project that was the last outstanding thing we had for eastern Asia. We are going to spend a little time in the next week or two studying the Middle East in Social Studies. So we are pretty much down to just Math and Language Arts for the younger two. Spencer is plugging away at Science and seems to be staying on track in his other subjects. I gave him an additional art project this week - we needed our homeschool fellowship logo sketched to go into the yearbook. He took some extra time to do that, and it turned out really well. Unfortunately I didn't scan it or take a picture of it before turning it over to the yearbook coordinator, so I will have to wait till the yearbooks are distributed before I see it again!

In other news... I had horrible back pain this week - it had started earlier but got steadily worse, especially at night, and I began to wonder if it was kidney stones as it seemed different from an muscle strain type of pain I'd ever had. I went to the doctor on Tuesday and apparently it is muscle spasms. All I know is it HURTS. So I didn't get much else done during the week, because once I started taking painkillers and muscle relaxants, I was too sleepy to do much! I did get to our homeschool group's grad rehearsal and the ceremony though.

Kennady had softball games planned for this week, two make-up games. One was finally cancelled after the other team had scheduling difficulties and then forfeited when they couldn't get enough players out.  We squeezed in a make-up game tonight, finishing up just as the first lightning strikes were seen in the area.

My favorite thing this week was... something that actually happened last week, but after I posted the Wrap-Up! We went to a baseball game (AAA team) on Saturday evening, and had seats behind home plate. Kennady was in the right place at the right time, and demonstrated amazing skill and nerve - she caught a foul ball that came straight up and back, bounced on the roof/balcony area behind us and then dropped near us. She stuck out her glove, cool as a cucumber and made a fantastic big league catch!

What's working/not working for us... the digital keyboard at church is not working. At least the sustain pedal is not working. I was playing on Sunday and the pedal randomly stopped working again so I had to play two whole songs on what sounded like one of those little rinky-dink toy pianos. LOL

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... Time to schedule my reviews, finish up grading, and get final report cards done! Then I can start lesson planning for next year!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...  I have a couple of links to share this week:
Cool Math blog - Let's Play Math

Great idea for teaching multiplication/division - Toad Haven Homeschool blog

On the Bookshelf...

  • Miniatures and Morals: the Christian novels of Jane Austen by Peter Leithart

  • Deep Church by Jim Belcher

  • The New Answers Book 1 - Ken Ham, General Editor

Finished Mansfield Park but none of the DVD versions are available through the library! At least I can't request them myself.  I will check with the librarian next week and see if they can request it for me.  I'd love to see it on film.

How's your back, Kym? Cool on that baseball! (Cati just went to a AAA game and got to play a kid's game on the field during 7th inning stretch. She lost, but had fun!)
