Homeschool Mother's Journal: Sick and Tired Edition

In our homeschool... If my title didn't give it away, this week wasn't one of our better ones.  At least one person has been sick every day this week, so we really took it easy.  On Monday we did get through a history lesson on the Depression. We decided to plan a 1930s Family Game Night for Saturday, since that was something suggested in the text as a family activity for this unit.

Everyone was tired on Monday, and Landon was sick, so after History, we relaxed and hoped for better things in the days to come.  It didn't turn out that way though.  Landon was sick in bed all day Tuesday and Wednesday, so Kennady and Spencer simply worked on a few things on their own, but my expectations weren't very high for any of us.

On Thursday, I went to co-op with Kennady, but probably shouldn't have as she started feeling sick in the afternoon.  We wound up leaving a little bit early, and she spent the rest of the day in bed feeling miserable.

Today turned out to be not that much better.  Kennady still was not feeling well, and since the boys were out late night before and not feeling well so I let everyone sleep in.  After lunch we got through another history lesson, but that was about it.  Hopefully we'll be able to enjoy our 1930s game night tomorrow.  I've got things lined up for it anyway!

In other news... Our van still didn't pass emissions test. This was the second try.  I need to go phone the garage and see when they can have another look at it. *sigh*

The boys went to concert on Thursday night and had a good time, but unfortunately it didn't really help their health at all.

We're expecting snow and sleet on the weekend, so despite feeling poorly, we all had to carry in wood so we can keep a fire going all weekend.  Kennady and I observed the birds taking stock of their situation before the colder weather returns too - a large flock of starlings descended on our front yard around lunchtime.

Helpful homeschooling tips/advice to share... contrary to popular belief, homeschoolers DO take sick days.  We took practically all week.  The difference is that I think it's much easier for us to make up the lost days.

What's working/not working for us... we're undecided as to how well the medicine is working.  I think we're getting better, but it's hard to say.

Thoughts/questions I have... when can I have a nap?  I'm tired and I think the kids have overshared their germs!

One of my favorite things this week... worship team practice was pretty awesome this week! I'm looking forward to Sunday!

I love coffee but do not have a coffee maker because I like my coffee with to much sugar and cream which then makes it unhealthy. I nominated you for a blog award http://allmybabybirds.blogspot.com/2013/02/homeschool-liebster-blog-award.html

There was a time that I drank coffee every single day. I stopped drinking it when I was pregnant with Alyssa. My husband offered me coffee one morning and it has been a bit of an addiction lately. All the delicious flavors do not help. Thanks for the link to the coffee article - I learned a few new things. Now ... if I could just stop putting so much sugar and creamer in my cup. I used to use Stevia but I fell off the bandwagon almost a year ago. WOW! What a cool picture of the starlings. Thank you for stopping by my Wizard of Oz blog post. Have a blessed week!!!
