I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.
~Psalm 40:1-3~
Although it was relatively minor, we experienced some flooding here after heavy rains. It's amazing how quickly the creeks and rivers rise and wash over the roadways; and how the little trickle of fresh water through a field can become a muddy rush that makes the ground soggy and the road unstable. Likewise, it can take us by surprise when our circumstances or our poor choices threaten to trap us in the mud, sweep out the path from under our feet, or just force us to find a detour around the closed roads and unsafe bridges. But if we trust in our God, he will show us the safe paths, rescue us from danger, and give us reason to be joyful and praise him even in the storms of life.

Thank you! I really needed this one today.
Wonderful message of hope! I am finding the Psalms to be a source of peace and strength.
I love Psalm 40! One of my favorites! I'm right after you at Scripture and a Snapshot this weekend.
As I read your post this morning, what stood out to me was this phrase ... "He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walk along." I so often expect to be steady & then walk. But God steadies me AS I walk along. The picture which came to mind was that of a baby, who when first starting out walking is quite wobbly. But AS he continues walking, steadiness comes. Sometimes steadiness comes as we keep taking steps with Him. Thankful to have read this today! Blessings!
Lovely analogy. Thanks for linking to Sunday Stillness.
Blessings,
Janis
Your words are a balm to my soul today. Thank you for sharing them.
Wonderful message.
Oh, yes, how little it takes to cause us to stumble and lose our way. Glad that the flooding was not an issue for your area!
There is so much comfort in Psalms. I'm glad you weren't horribly affected by the flooding. Your picture is lovely. It looks like something from a storybook.
