We are one of the many homeschool families that don't have a dedicated school room. We did have, for a while, but that was quite a number of years ago. We've been using our dining room table as the primary gathering place for school for around ten years, if I'm remembering right.

There are times I really wish we had a spare room that we could turn into a school room - a room with huge bookshelves and room for three desks. Where I could put maps and posters on the walls, and have a gallery of Kennady's artwork. And ideally, where we had at least two computers (and an  unlimited high-speed internet connection) so we wouldn't have to juggle everyone's computer needs.

That's a nice dream, but our set-up has been working really well for us, and we're kind of in the home stretch of homeschooling now. I have two desks in my room - one for the computer, and one that is more of a bookshelf. It does have workspace... when I keep it cleared... which I haven't for quite some time. I have good intentions, but it's way too convenient for me to continue using the workspace of that desk to keep my "inbox"  and to continue my bad habit of stacking things until I figure out what to do with them. It's on my to-do list to clear that desk, I promise. All the teacher editions and most of the reference books and shared resources are in my bookshelf desk or in a crate beside my computer desk.

Teacher's editions and some textbooks, all ready to go for the new school year!

This is what my crate of schoolbooks looked like about a week ago. Yikes!

I pulled everything out, put away what we were finished with, and organized what I needed to keep. Hopefully I can keep it tidy like this through the coming school year!

Landon and Kennady keep most of their school books in their rooms, so cleaning those up was their job last week. Landon maintains a rather minimalist decor around his desk, so he really didn't have much to do!

Kennady's style is a little different... but she did give me all the books she was finished with so they can be stored or disposed of as appropriate, and she has everything she needs handy at her desk.

She keeps a lot of her books in a crate too.

When we're working on school, the dining room table often winds up looking sort of like these pictures.
