Before I start, I should make it clear that we are NOT taking a snow day today. Just in case my kids think we are, they are wrong. County schools are closed today though, and probably with good reason, since as of this morning there were a lot of roads that still needed to be cleared, and some still don't have all lanes open. Out in rural areas, there may be only one lane cleared, and it may still be rough going.
Anyway, it all started innocently enough on Friday afternoon. The forecast warned us to expect up to two feet or so of the white stuff from Friday night through Saturday.
And then by Saturday morning, it looked like this. White out.
The hubster needed to get over to the greenhouse, but the only way to do that was by tractor.
By the way, this isn't the first the owner has had to come meet the hubster in the tractor with a ride to the greenhouse. These two pictures are from 2010:
The snow continued until late Saturday, and with all that snow to be removed from all those roads, it was no surprise that churches cancelled Sunday services. Sunday morning dawned clear, cold, and beautiful. Which meant it was time to start digging out. And of course we were all on Facebook keeping each other informed of our progress.
Hubby caught a ride to the greenhouse in the company tractor again, and the boys spent their Sunday morning reopening the path down our driveway and digging the cars free.
The truck won't be going anywhere for a day or two.
I love how the sky is so almost impossibly blue on a clear day after a big snow.
This is actually next winter's wood supply, that we intended to move back to the shed before the snow. Alrighty then, that'll wait a few days at least.
Good thing we were ready to use the front door this time, because the snow kept drifting across the porch at the side door we usually use.
That's also where the satellite dish is. Good thing we never had a problem with our satellite TV signal, because I don't think I would have wanted to clear a tunnel to the dish this time.
(I did exactly that during a major snowstorm in 2010. I earned my Best Hockey Wife Ever title then for blazing this trail to the dish and knocking the ice off so we could watch Hockey Night In Canada.)
Sunday afternoon it occurred to us that we'd better make an effort to clear some snow from our back deck. It had approximately two feet of snow on it, and then another foot or more slid off the solar panels onto it. The girl-child got sent out to start putting a little dent in this job.
Again, for comparison - this was the deck after that big 2010 snow. Clearly there's a lot more this time!
We were thankful for our woodstove - not pretty, but effective.
And for coffee. Lots of hot coffee. In snowflake mugs.
For comparison, you might want to see some past snow day pictures:
