Kennady did this chalk pastel piece several weeks ago, when brought home new art pads for her to fill up, but at the time she wasn't happy with it. I'm not sure why, because I rather liked it as soon as she showed it to me. I guess it didn't turn out exactly as she'd hoped. She had intended it to be a line of trees and the northern lights above. I'd say the background is too light and that's why the black and grey didn't work as well for the trees that she'd wanted to be silhouetted against a night sky.
All that said, I still like it, and she gave me permission to share it.

I think it is beautiful! The variety of the northern lights has always fascinated me and I think it gives so much permission for variation in drawing it. Nice job, Kennady! - Lori
