In our homeschool . . . I think it was another quite productive week, helped along by the weather which prompted another round of cancelled activities on Tuesday. Why Tuesdays? There really wasn't even that much snow, so it was pretty aggravating to miss gym and choir, but we got some extra math and history done so I guess it was for the best.

For the most part, the kids just worked away on their own during the week, while I just tried to stay on top of the grading for a change. I'm also finding worksheets and quizzes at Help Teaching, which we'll be reviewing soon. Kennady let me listen with her to the latest audio adventure from Heirloom Audio Adventures, The Dragon and The Raven. We'll have a review of that coming up soon too.

In other news . . . On Sunday, of course we went to a SuperBowl party! Very low key, but we had a good time and tons of delicious food. Rather a boring game though - didn't you think?

Awhile ago I decided that we should celebrate as much as possible, and we should have at least one special occasion every month, so I decided to take advantage of Chinese New Year on Monday. Well, Chinese food is very rarely on the menu at our house, and I can't even remember the last time we got Chinese take-out, so I did the easiest thing I could think of and bought "Chinese food entrees" at the grocery store to heat and eat for dinner! And then hubby remembered that we had this lovely set of chopsticks that he'd received for Christmas so yes, we all ate our dinner using chopsticks, which I consider quite an accomplishment. Sadly, no one wanted their picture taken while we were at the table.

As I mentioned, winter weather came along and caused our Tuesday activities to be cancelled. Thankfully things were back to normal on Wednesday! Kennady and I went to get our hair cut on Thursday afternoon - I wish I'd gotten a picture of hers, as it's even shorter now, but so cute on her. Not that I am the least bit biased! In the evening the hubster and I went out for dinner with friends of ours and had a lovely time despite the bitter cold.

Yesterday afternoon the kids and a whole bunch of their friends headed out for their winter retreat at a local Christian camp and ranch. I don't know how many of the outdoor activities there they will actually do (probably all of them, if I know my kids!) because once again it is insanely cold and very windy. As far as I can tell they are having a blast. But please pray for them as well - this retreat usually means great spiritual growth and some deep challenges for the kids.

I recommend . . . Front Porch Restaurant and Cafe, if you are in the York, PA area. This is where we went for dinner on Thursday evening, and it was wonderful.

On the bookshelf . . .

David and Bathsheba by Roberta Kells Dorr
The Coffee Trader: A Novel by David Liss
Empty Nest: What's Next?: Parenting Adult Children Without Losing Your Mind by Michele Howe

Finished The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden. I reviewed both on my book blog, Just A Secondand you can also find other reviews and book-related things there.

A parting shot . . . two unusual presidential pictures I found while working on my President's Day lesson book post. Shirtless George, as we like to call him -
