In our homeschool . . . how do I describe this week? On one hand, it had the feel of collapsing after crossing the school year finish line; but on the other, I had Kennady's portfolio review this week and final report cards to complete and turn in. And I was also out doing portfolio reviews for other families. It definitely made it challenging to be motivated to do what we needed to do. Understandably, the kids felt like they were just so totally DONE with school, especially Landon, but of course there some loose ends to deal with.
Anyway, we did take a very relaxed approach to school this week, and in some ways we really are done because the final grades have been calculated and Landon even has his diploma! That said, he has a couple of subjects that he needs to finish because I awarded the credit on the understanding that he really would wrap those up over the summer. And Kennady is in the same situation of needing to wrap up the couple of things that she didn't get all the way through. I am going to sit down with each of them over the next few days and plan out exactly what they still need to complete and what their timetable for working on it will be.
Also, both of them will be doing a bit more writing over the next couple weeks. I want Landon to get in some extra practice to make sure he's prepared if he does decide to take any college courses in the fall. And Kennady could use a little practice in essay writing too, plus she will be starting on The Power in Your Hands from Writing with Sharon Watson so we can review that in a few weeks.

In addition to The Power in Your Hands, we have these things we'll be working on for upcoming reviews:
The Progeny Press literature study of The Scarlet Pimpernel
Beric the Briton from Heirloom Audio Productions

In other news . . . well, on Saturday it felt like we were all going in different directions, but it did work out okay. Landon took off early in the morning to help out at the yard sale fundraiser for Civil Air Patrol. Right after a hurried brunch, Spencer left for work; shortly after that I left for work; and DH and Landon went to a friend's graduation ceremony. We did all make it back home for a fairly relaxing evening.
We needed to be at church especially early on Sunday morning to set up the platform with instruments and sound equipment, even though we were doing an acoustic-feel set. Kennady played ukulele on most of the songs, and there were three other guitarists. I played keyboard and we used only the kongas instead of the drum kit. Also didn't use individual mics for the vocals, so that gave it sort of an unplugged vibe. I loved it. Seems like a lot of others did too.
In between all my portfolio review appointments, I still had to get Kennady to her guitar lesson, and to a friend's birthday party. Landon played softball on the church team on Monday, and then received his Billy Mitchell Award at the Civil Air Patrol squadron meeting on Tuesday.
We had worship team practice on Wednesday night (Landon is playing with us this week, but I awarded Kennady a week off!), and Landon worked yesterday and today. I'm hoping that a technician will be here sometime this afternoon to realign the satellite dish that provides our internet, and that it will greatly improve the connection!

What's Working . . . Or maybe I should say WHO's working! I am, and so is Landon. I'm still learning the ropes and working only on weekends at a local winery's tasting room. It's very interesting, and I think I'm going to love it. Once I finish memorizing the names of the wines and what their respective bottles and labels look like! Landon is working for a local contractor that we know when they have jobs available for him. He seems to enjoy the hard work.

On the bookshelf . . .
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
Lady of Ashes by Christine Trent
My Mother's Quilts by Ramona Richards
I finished From This Moment by Elizabeth Camden last night, so the review will appear soon on my book blog, Just A Second. And I finally finished Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, so you can find that review there already, along with other reviews and book-related things.
A parting shot . . . We've got our pool open for another season. Before we had chlorinated it this week, these little guys understandably mistook the greenish water for a pond and used the empty chlorine float as their lily pad. Note the dragonflies - apparently it was all working out very nicely for them until we made it a little more appealing for humans!
I will be linking up at the Weekly Wrap-Up hosted by Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers, at Christian Fellowship Weekend hosted by Biblical Womanhood, at the Homeschool Mother's Journal hosted by NextGenHomeschool, and at "My Week in Review" hosted by Home to 4 Kiddos.
Lisa at Home to 4 Kiddos usually hosts "My Week in Review", but her family's home was severely damaged in a fire recently. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. Information on how you can help them if you feel so led can be found here on her blog: Blessing for the Boyle Family.

My kids and I enjoyed a nice long weekend taking Friday and Monday off. We're definitely limping across the finish line this year.
