Just when you think everything is going along pretty good in your homeschool, and you might be settling into a groove, something comes up that puts you behind again. And many times, the interruptions are things that are actually good things, just not necessarily great timing, or what you'd originally planned.
Last week was a perfect example. Last Sunday evening we found out that my son's wife had been hospitalized due to pre-eclampsia and that their baby would need to be delivered very soon. On Tuesday, November 1st, our first grandchild, a perfectly beautiful - but tiny - little girl, was born, and naturally our plans began changing! Kennady accompanied me to Columbus on Wednesday so we could meet Veronica and to help out the little family if possible. I told Kennady to take along some schoolwork - perhaps Health, since it's mostly reading, or Math, since she could work on that in short blocks of time - as I hoped she would be able to do a little bit of work here and there as we drove or during downtime. Sure enough, on Thursday afternoon, there was a perfect opportunity for her. She spent a couple hours at their apartment, dog-sitting. But naturally, once we got there, I suggested the schoolbooks and then she confessed that she hadn't brought any of them along after all!
Oh well. Not sure how much she would have accomplished anyway. So, last week was pretty much a wash when it came to school. Hopefully this week will be better, and she'll be working hard on getting caught up again today and through the rest of the week.
On the plus side, isn't it wonderful to have the flexibility to allow us to travel on the spur of the moment for a family event, whether or not we get school done during those few days? An opportunity like this one is priceless.
