Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

How about two cups of coffee? One for Canada Day and one for Independence Day.

Homeschool news  . . . Another week of break, or mostly being on break. Kennady did work on Algebra (as did I!) and History on Thursday and is working on it again today, once she gets home from work.

Other news . . . We were still enjoying Nonnie Camp on Friday and Saturday and loving having Lil' Vee here. On Saturday evening her folks decided to leave Creation a bit early, and we met them in Gettysburg for dinner. Then they came back to our place for the night and headed home on Sunday morning. We're already missing them, but the hubster and I will be going out to Columbus for a visit with them in just over a week. (Auntie and Nonnie took Vee shopping a couple of times, of course!)

Sunday was Canada Day, and the boys got home from Creation. We were all tired and the boys had all their laundry to do, and we went to birthday party for a friend in the evening, so we decided to leave our Canada Day dinner for the next day. I did get the butter tarts baked and ready though!

I did have to work on Monday and it was stupid hot. So uncomfortable! Got home to have a quick Canada Day dinner and we spent the evening doing some cleaning up in preparation for a birthday party on Tuesday. Kennady planned to have a friend over in the evening to celebrate her birthday, but she didn't know that I had invited a bunch of other friends as well. It turned out very well, with the friends arriving at various times during the evening, and each one adding to the surprise of the birthday girl! I'd hoped they could all be outside, but it was another crazy hot day so it just wasn't pleasant at all. One of her friends brought her a set of devil sticks so they did go outside and work on juggling for awhile, but even in the shade they didn't last long. (On top of that, our lawn mower is broken AGAIN, so the grass is a bit on the tallish side.) But a very happy birthday for my beautiful, brave, talented seventeen-year-old. Seventeen though. Sometimes I do wish she would stop growing up - it's happening too fast!

July 4th was another hot day, but we did have a brief period of thunderstorms in the late afternoon that cut the humidity a little bit. Thankfully, it didn't cancel the fireworks, so we went to Frederick to watch those as is our usual custom on the 4th.

My daughter-in-law sent these adorable pictures of Vee ready to celebrate, and of her watching the fireworks. Isn't she the sweetest?!

Thursday was spent at home, but we dropped off the mower deck to be repaired in the afternoon. The hubster had his hockey team draft in the evening, Kennady went to worship team practice and then to a local carnival with a friend, and Landon was out with a friend. So I had a rather quiet evening at home, since Spencer wasn't feeling well and stayed in his room.

On my blogs last week . . .

Here on Homeschool Coffee Break:

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed A Brush with Shadows (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber, and I've been reading:

A parting shot . . . Speaking of the birthday girl, here's one of her original songs she recently shared.

It has been so uncomfortably hot here too; we didn't even make it out to see any fireworks. Thankfully we had major thunderstorms yesterday and today dawned nice and sunny and cool. I don't mind the heat so much but I hate when it's humid with no hint of a breeze.

I love comments! It's like visiting over a virtual cup of coffee.
