Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . Our OFFICIAL first day of school was on Monday, although we didn't do much school. It was a day off work for all of us, and we'd just come back from vacation, so we slept as late as we dared and were rather slow-moving most of the day! Kennady did finish up her summer French homework though, and worked a little on Math and History.

Tuesday morning she was at work - but that's also school, since she is basically apprenticing. We do need to figure out some details of how it will work and how to keep track of it. The afternoon was more of a typical school day, and in the evening we were both back at our choirs for the season.

Wednesday is shaping up to be our full day at-home school day. I sure hope we can count on one of those every week! Hopefully we'll settle into a predictable schedule within just a couple of weeks. Kennady worked on Math, and together we did a quick review of some History and made sure we had everything ready to go for the first day of co-op.

Yesterday our co-op classes started for the year, and I think we all had a good day. I'm teaching Fiction Writing and US History, and both classes went well overall. Kennady is in both of those classes, of course. She is also taking French II - they started with review and everything seemed to have stuck fairly well over the summer! And she is taking Speech and Presentation II as well. That was her favorite class last year, and although only a couple other students are returning, it looks like another very fun semester. There's quite an age gap between her and most of the students, so that might be a bit hard at times. A couple of the returning students in Speech are juniors (and maybe one other senior?). Of her best friends, only one is also a senior this year - the others are all a year older. So I think our two biggest challenges this year will be her ability to stay connected with those close friends who are now busy with college; and doing all we need to have her well prepared for college.

Other news . . . We had a little vacation last week, spending some time in southern Ontario with my sister and my niece. We hadn't seen each other since the fall of 2013 so this was a pretty big event! Highlights included our adventures at Niagara Falls - I've posted some pictures, but there's more to come!

Kennady, Kaylee, Laury, and Kym - looking good in our red ponchos!

On Saturday we dropped them off in the town where my niece will be at university so they could start moving her in. We headed home early on Sunday morning. With a stash of Canadian foods, of course.

It was imperative that we get back by late afternoon on Sunday, because Kennady and I had tickets to a Pentatonix concert on Sunday evening.

What a fantastic way to kick off our school year!

Needless to say, Monday was a lazy day for all of us. None of us needed to report to our jobs, so we slept late, did a bit of school, and tried to get some stuff done around the house. The guys focused on yard work, and Landon got some work done on our porch floor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll find enough time to work on it so it can be finished by the time my parents come to visit.

Tuesday morning we were all back to our usual routines. It was lovely and sunny all week, which was nice, but it was also really hot, which was rather uncomfortable at times!

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

Treacherous Is the Night (A Verity Kent Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber

A parting shot . . . spotted near downtown Hamilton. I sure hope this store is owned by someone whose last name is Your.

Seems like the senior year is started out fantastically! Loved seeing all the photos from your Niagara Falls Trip earlier.
