Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
A tray of Tim Horton's coffees - a Christmas treat and tradition!
This weekly highlight post will be brief, because we're all on Christmas break, and I'm still out of town celebrating the holidays!
Homeschool news . . . Well, none really! Kennady did work on some assignments on Monday, but not a lot because she had packing and last minute things to do before the Christmas Eve service and our trip.
Other news . . . The hubster and I used last weekend to finish our Christmas shopping and preparations. I left all the Christmas shopping to almost the last minute, and managed to get it all done in three trips over four days. Next year I'll start sooner though! Same thing with Christmas cards. I didn't even try to get them done before Christmas. They are really just New Years cards at this point. Anyway, the kids went out with the young adult group from church on Saturday morning and looked for homeless or needy folks that they could help out. Stretched them a bit, and was a great ministry for them to be involved in!
Our family was leading worship on Sunday morning, and then after a light lunch and a bit of downtime, the boys got packed up and headed to Columbus to spend the week with our oldest son and his family. The hubster and I both worked on Monday, and Kennady was involved in the Christmas Eve service on Monday evening. The service was beautiful, by the way, and she did a great job with her songs! Kennady and I hurried home right after the service, finished packing, and then we three headed to Columbus as well. We arrived in the wee hours of Christmas morning, slept for a few hours, and it was time to celebrate Christmas with our granddaughter! What a delight!! We had a late Christmas dinner with them too, after checking into our hotel and resting for a bit.
I haven't got pictures ready to share on the blog, but if you'd like to see some, you can check out my Instagram @hscoffeebreak or the Homeschool Coffee Break Facebook page.
The whole family went to the antique mall on Boxing Day, and just browsed around. I don't think any of us purchased anything! In the evening, we had our family Christmas outing - the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert! We all had a great time seeing and hearing this fantastic performance! (Some pictures will be coming soon - and some are available now on Instagram and Facebook)
We also celebrated my birthday this week! Harrison and Angela both worked during the day, so the other boys met up with us and we went out for lunch, did a quick tour of a chocolate factory (Anthony-Thomas Chocolates in Columbus), went to my favorite book store, and then killed some time in IKEA. It's the third year in a row that I've requested time at The Book Loft on my birthday, so that's becoming sort of a tradition. We met Harrison and Angela at the Hofbrauhaus for my birthday dinner.
