Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . I wrapped up last week by sending in Kennady's report card for first semester, which was a bit of a wake-up call. She is in her last semester of high school now. In the home stretch. It will be jam-packed as all her courses are full year, except for the Public Speaking course that wrapped up a couple weeks ago. And in its place she is doing the Intro to Business course, plus she needs to do a Consumer Math/Personal Finance course. It's a bit daunting to think of fitting all of it into the remaining few months, but neither of those two courses have a huge amount of homework involved, so as long as she doesn't slack off somewhere, it should be okay.

Last week was a light week for homework in Creative Writing, which worked out okay because she had a research paper to finish up for US History. This week will be a light week for homework in both of those classes, so hopefully it will be a good opportunity to get rolling with Consumer Math.

The extreme cold caused schools to close during the week, but we were able to have our co-op classes yesterday as scheduled. However, the French instructor was one of those unable to get out of the driveway due to snow or ice, so Kennady did not have French class. She had a really rough go on her most recent French quiz (as did the other students in the class), so I guess they will focus on reviewing that vocabulary and mastering it!

Other news . . . On Friday night, Kennady got together with some of her co-op classmates to hang out and play cards, and since I provided her ride I got to visit with the host's mom for awhile. It was a nice evening out, but on the way home I hit an icy patch of road and clipped a post. Fortunately, the only damage was the loss of the rear view mirror on the passenger side of the car. It could have been so much worse!

I had to work on Saturday, so hubby continued on our dining room redecorating project with some help from Kennady and Spencer. The walls are stripped and clean in the dining room now. We didn't work on it much during the week, but this weekend we're hoping to finish getting the wallpaper removed in the kitchen, and possibly get some of the painting started.

Yes, the mini-streamers from my birthday are still on the ceiling fan!
I'm leaving them up as long as possible, just for the fun of it.
On Saturday evening, the hubster and I went to Hershey for a hockey game with friends from his work.

The weather co-operated for us to have church on Sunday, but it was cold! It got much colder still during the rest of the week, and we did get more snow on Tuesday. So although we all worked on Tuesday during the day, the evening activities were all cancelled, as were all activities on Wednesday. We were fully occupied with keeping our woodstove going and staying warm, but could hardly complain considering the fact that our friends and family in the Midwest and central Canada were experiencing far more frigid temperatures!

Reader Favorites . . . some of the most read posts here on Homeschool Coffee Break over the past month or so - thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing!

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Share Four Somethings - January 2019
Monthly Bookshelf Review - January 2019
Wordless Wednesday - Tuning
Recent Reads - The Alamo Bride
Scripture and a Snapshot - Because of His Mercy

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed The Alamo Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower) by Kathleen Y'Barbo, and I've been reading:

Kind Is the New Classy: The Power of Living Graciously by Candace Cameron Bure
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery Book 4) by Deanna Raybourn

A parting shot . . . I felt quite sure the shovel was laughing at me. What do you think? Do you see faces in inanimate objects, or is that just me?

Beautiful snow photos; it has been pretty cold here too but no where near as cold as what I'm hearing other people have had to deal with.
