Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Homeschool news . . . I was glad for a week that offered me a bit of break from grading and lesson prep for co-op. And Kennady had less co-op homework as well. The Creative Writing class started watching the movie Up! last week and finished yesterday. We were using the movie as an example of the Hero's Journey plot structure. And it just happened that the US History homework options for this week included an art project. Of course she chose art over a writing assignment! Her Business and French classes also had less time-consuming homework for the week. I wish I could say she spent the extra time working on Consumer Math, but I'm pretty sure she did not. I didn't spend any extra time getting grading caught up, so I don't have much room to criticize!
We did spend some of our "extra" time working on Fix-It Grammar though, as we've been working on that for an upcoming review.
To be fair, Kennady didn't have time on the weekend to spend on schoolwork because we were busy Friday evening, and she spent all day Saturday on a class trip to New York City. The students in the Business class plus a few friends went to the Big Apple for a fun outing that included a boat tour around Liberty Island, exploring Central Park, and a walk down Wall Street.

Other news . . . on Friday evening, our whole family (including a couple of Auxiliary Kids) went to Hershey for a Bears hockey game. We'd put together a group of twenty-five people from church so we could get group tickets, and had a blast, even though the Bears lost in overtime. The regular season is just about over, so it's unlikely we'll get to another game this spring, but knowing we can get an even larger group with a bit more planning means we are thinking ahead to attending games next season with the whole gang!
Kennady has a lot of pictures from her day in NYC and I might have her do a guest post soon so she can share some of them.
Sunday was rather quiet, since the boys weren't home for lunch or most of the afternoon, and Kennady needed some extra nap time after her busy Saturday. We've had a relatively quiet week as well. It rained all day Thursday, and we had flood watches and warnings in effect. Things were looking pretty sketchy even on the way home from co-op, and I expected some road closures this morning, but it actually looks like it's clearing up.
On the way to the game, we got to see quite a contrast in weather over just a few minutes. Ah, springtime!
And this was the sunrise when I took Kennady to meet her classmates and friends for their trip to New York City on Saturday. How could we not pull over and take a couple of photos?

A parting shot . . . St Patrick's Day gave me an excuse to enjoy Irish Coffee, Lucky Charms, and green tea frappucino. Lucky Charms is a St Patrick's Day tradition for our family!
