Virtual Refrigerator - Grad Quilt

My mom is also an artist, and her medium is fabric. She makes beautiful quilts! So far each of her grandchildren have received a special quilt when they graduated. While my parents were here visiting, Mom and Kennady worked together on some ideas for a grad quilt design. It was no surprise that Kennady wanted a design that featured music. She had been searching Pinterest and saving pictures of designs that she liked, so after looking at those ideas and talking about a color scheme, Mom drew up a sketch and did some math and the two of them went to the fabric store. Kennady chose the colors and fabrics and Mom got started on the quilt top here. 

The background - one half is a strip quilt, and the other half is a solid (well, actually a subtle print).

Then a guitar is appliqued down the center, mirroring the strip quilt and solid. This was made using the actual size outline of Kennady's favorite guitar!

We laid it on Kennady's bed to get an idea of how the finished quilt will fit. You can really tell the difference in lighting! There are still design elements and a border to be added, and all the quilting, but already it's a beautiful piece of art! I look forward to showing it off again when it's complete!
