Homeschool Highlights - Trick or Treat Week

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I would love to pass the baton to someone else.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . We tried to get some work done around here on the weekend! Well, we make some attempt every week - usually without as much success as we'd hoped - but we had several projects in the works and actually made progress on them! On Friday Landon and a co-worker got the majority of the work done on our upstairs bathroom. This was something we've been meaning to tackle, but with plans underway to have someone join our household for awhile, we decided it couldn't be put off. New sink and vanity, new toilet, and new shower fixtures. Check that off the list, although the bathroom still needs to be painted.

On Friday morning, the guys went over to the church to help out with the yard sale for a bit, while Kennady slept in and I puttered around the house. I had an appointment in town at noon, so Kennady came along with me so we could do some shopping while there. We also stopped at Lowe's to satisfy my curiosity and I wound up ordering a new cooktop - another thing we've been meaning to look after for simply ages. (And when I got home later, I also ordered a new range hood!) Merry Christmas to me a bit early! After finishing the errands and shopping, we called the guys and had them bring Landon's truck and meet us at a friend's place, where we picked up the trundle bed set that I'd arranged to purchase for Kennady's room. Yet another thing we've talked about replacing for a long time, and now it's finally done.

Needless to say, we were tired and not in the mood to cook, so I brought fried chicken home for our dinner. After dinner, Kennady and I took apart and removed her old bed by ourselves, and set up the new beds by ourselves too. We are strong, capable women! At least until we find a whole bunch of stinkbugs! Yikes.

Perhaps at this point I should mention that the old toilet and mattresses that were taken out of the house have been sitting right by our kitchen porch most of the week. :sigh: In fact, the toilet is STILL there. Classy. We'll never get new neighbors next door at this rate.

Monday evening was a busy one here at home. After the usual Monday family dinner (this now regularly includes three auxiliary kids), Landon and Meaghan baked cookies while Kennady and Will carved pumpkins. And the hubster and I watched Stranger Things. He'd never seen it, and since it was suggested as a possible Trunk theme, he said he'd watch an episode. Result: he's been binge-watching it this week!

Jack Skellington Jack-o'-lantern by Kat, October 2019

On Tuesday we dropped the car off at the body shop for the needed repairs and picked up our rental vehicle. Which Kennady is not allowed to drive. So that will make our ride sharing arrangements rather challenging in the upcoming weeks.

shopping trip with my girls!

On Wednesday we had the annual Trunk or Treat event at church in the evening, and despite the rain and drizzle, I heard it was our best attended ToT to date! The hubster and I hosted a trunk again this year, and had a simply lovely time impersonating Daddy Pig and Mummy Pig from the Peppa Pig kids show (which our granddaughter adores).

Yesterday was co-op, and many of the students came in costume, so that was fun. Kennady only had two classes, and one of those was cancelled, so she had a fairly easy day at college. We got home earlier than most Thursdays, and I took advantage of the time to grab a nap! The kids were all out at their young adult group in the evening, and the hubster was donating blood, so I was alone most of the evening, just listening to the wind and the thunderstorm!
